Euro X3 owners - does Dynamic Routing work ?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi - a question for European owners of X3 with Prof Sat Nav and TMC:

Does your system support Dynamic Routing option with TMC?

I asked BMW dealer today and they confirmed that it should work for TMC enabled systems. Mine (2006, v28, 2006-2 DVD) does not have Dynamic Routing. Do others have this option in the X3? UK sales literature for X3 claims Dynamic Routing is supported in 2006 MY cars

Thanks

(thanks to RichardP1 for X5 picture)

No "Dynamic Route" here. Aug 2006 X3 in Germany. TMC works nicely and when a road is blocked, a dialog appears telling what is happening and asking me if I want to reroute. Don't know if it reroutes automatically but I'm thankful it doesn't. Sometimes the accident/issue is not that hard and the "10km delay" is not happening anymore.

Dynamic routing option will only work if you have the very latest BM54 tuner module fitted. I am not sure when in 2006 this tuner was introduced, but will probably depend on the build date of your vehicle.

I know this as my old-style BM54 went u/s and the dealer replaced it with the latest version - Dynamic Routing magically appeared on the Route Selection menu.

You know, the 'old' BM54 tuners aren't too reliable :) - They do go wrong from time to time and the dealer will swap it out under warranty for the latest version. Mine was intermittent - sometimes the radio would not come on and needed a 'key off, wait 5 mins' lark. Only happened once in 10 trips, but it was enough to get the dealer to swap the radio.

Of course, if you bought the car with the belief that Dynamic Routing was an installed option (due to the sales brochure) and it isn't, then report THAT as a fault and get them to sort it

Thanks trapdoor - my understanding is that the X3 does not use the M54 tuner - it is a very different dash-mounted CD/tuner to the X5 and is shared with Z4 and there are no differences between Euro and US parts (same part numbers listed for all cars on realoem). The tuner is pretty advanced though in offering MP3/ID tags for dash mounted CD's and TMC. Seems odd that code for Dynamic Routing would not have been incorporated.

The interesting thing is that all the X3 sales docs and the accessory guide use the term "Dynamic Routing" - probably a cut-and-paste from X5 docs.

I've asked dealer to raise a PUMA question to the factory - we'll see what Germany have to say ...
