Bought a X5 with dead navi sceen...

Hi!

I'm new here, and I'm from Sweden.

I bought a X5 yesterday, that was made 2001-08 = widescreen nav.

The lady who sold it, said that the navi/screen didn't work.
Fine, the I have to buy a new one.
But, after reading a couple of forums, I'm not sure what I should fix.

The screen is light gray in the dark, so there is power. The radio and
CD changer also work. At the back, it looks like I have the MKIII navi.

Now, what could be wrong? Monitor? MKIII navi? or Video module that
I read somwhere that is lokated under the spare tire?

Any one that has hade the same problem?

Kind regards
Benny

I read something in a Swedish forum, that maybe disconnecting the
battery for 20 min could help...?? Does that sound reasonable?

I would start with disconnecting the video module located under the spare wheel. You will have to remove the domed suspension compressor unit also to gain access. Leave this disconnected for a while then reconnect

Aha... ok.
I will try this as soon as I come home. The compressor.. is that for the
level of the rear suspension? (don't know the name in english).

I will let you know how it goes in a couple of hours...

Thanks.

I tried to disconnect the battery for 15-20 min, but it didn't help. The
only thing that happend, was that now the language in the check-control
panel is in Germany....

Any idea of what I should replace? Videomodul, navi reader och screen?

Hallo Benny

It`s most likely that it is the Monitor that is defect , it`s a littel electronic deveice inside the montor that "burns" off , dont cost much to repair , so if your fingers not is wrong "put" on , you most be abel to repair it youself , if you have at store in the area that sells electronic sparreparts.

Ok.
Then I will take apart my monitor and see if I can find anything thats
wrong. You sa "burns" off. It sounds like an small fuse, that are mounted
on the surface of the electronic card. I can't the name in english. But
I will try to see if I can find anything tomorrow.
The only thing I noticed this evening, is that the PDC now works???
strange.. before i disconnected the battery, it didn't work, so I was
going to change one sensor. But now it works...hmmm?

But I will see if I can find anything in the monitor tomorrow

I have now the monitor in my kitchen :)
But the thing that "burns" off... is that an ... (don't know the name in
english) surface-mounted-fuse you mean? The call i something like that
in sweden. It's not more than 1,5x2 mm offen....

Is it in the screen part, that opens when you want to put in an
cassette, or is it in the whole monitor unit where most of the inteligence
is?

Hello Benny

The part that "burns of" sits in the LCD part ( the mowing monitor part ) , and are lokated on the back of Print plate to the left , you can`t mis the defect part , it is all "melted" down .

/Benno

The same in Danish:

Hej Benny

Det er i selve monitor/skærm delen at der gået noget i stykker "brændt af" , så du må skille den komplet ad , så er det på bagsiden af print pladen til venstre du vil kunne lokalisere den defekte del.

Ahhhh... thank you!
I tried the monitor today togehter with an working MKIII nav, and it
was the screen that is broken, so I will check i tomorrow when I come home.

Thanks alot!
