Solution Needed for widescreen

Hoi everyone

I need a solution to get my flatcable inside the monitor connected!

The flatcable connect to two sockets inside the housing, original when you put the cable on is place, you need to push on a plastic clip so the cable gets stuck, well the monitor i bought doesnt have does clips and i been searching and searching but no luck!
There's no part number on the connectors or the cable so i don't know where to search.
Ive been gettin a link from a friendly boardmember (www.tycoelectronics.com) but my english is not so well and its difficult to explain what plug or clip i need without knowing the name or model of the clip or connector, i know one has 28 contactpoints and the other 26.

Hopefully someone with specs can help me out with this model or an alternative solution

Regards

Joël from Belgium

Can you post some pictures to show us what components you are referring to?

You can upload them as an attachment to your reply (click "Post Reply" and at the bottom of the screen should be a button called "Manage Attachments").

You may need to resize them first to keep within the posting limits.

Have you tried an electronic components shop? These are not car industry specific components that you are looking for but rather electronics generic components. You will not find a BMW part number to them I dare say. I would bring the whole unit to an electronics hardware shop and show the salesman what I need.
Hope it helps.

yes i will try that tomorrow, maybe someone on the board recognize the type of connector so i can search on the web if i can't get it in a shop nearby

Think they are Molex 1mm ZIF sockets.

Have a look at rswww.com (NOT www just type rswww.com into your browser) - enter 514-4521 into the search field and select RS Stock Number Search (this is the 26way)

I doubt that you will buy these in any electronics shop as they are a bit specialist but you can buy from RS if you have a trade account. May be a problem though in Belgium!

Hope this helps.

One thing that doesn't look too good from your photo though - the bottom of the two connectors - looks like the right hand latch clip is broken which may mean that the locking bar won't stay put.

Thnx trapdoor,

I'm gonna look how to order from the site!

I've managed to lock the flatcable wit a plastic piece that put presure to the flatcable but the contacts are not verry stable, the first time i tried it was perfect and i whas so happy, but when i pusht the housing in te hole the screen begon to flikker and roll and my buttons won't work anymore, so i know that the contact from the flatcable wasnt perfect, and when i pullt out the cable it seems that i put to much pressure on the cable because the pins from the connector had made puncts in the cable, anyway maybe i'm gonna solder some cables on the flatcable to the print, and hopefully that way i get the contacts stable.
I wish i could get the original cable and sockets from alpine so i could replace them but can't find anything online (tough).

Tomorrow i post the result of the soldering, any suggestions are more then welcome!

Thnx for the replies everyone and maybe some day i can smile @ the wonderfull widescreen when i'm driving

Regards

Joël
