Where to start when upgrading software (MKIII)

Hey,

I just install a 16:9 full screen on my '01 X5. What a difference!

However, i want to tackle uprading my software. I thought about getting a MKIV navi, but putting down $800 right now is way too much. I've been trying to understand this whole "version" ordeal but its not completely clicking.

How can i upgrade my MKIII software? I have v17 right now. I am looking to upgrade higher (at lease to one with BMW welcome screen). v23 seems to be the most compatible now.

ANY comments, opinions, and tutorials woudl be very helpful.

thanks,

mike

There is a link in the articles section on upgrading the software. Word of caution...if you go the route suggested, you would be downloading from the internet and you know what problems that can bring. I went to the dealer and my SA jump in and we headed to the back. My Tech loaded the disk and I was out in 15 minutes top. No charge!!! That's a whole lot safer IMO, than going the internet route.............Phil

If you follow the instructions on this site, you'll need to download a program called Clone CD to properly follow those instructions.

PM me if you have any problems, I upgraded my MkIII to v23 a few months ago.

My local dealer does have the updated cd's. The tech told me that they always get the new version. There are too many MKIII systems still in use.......Phil

do you happen to know how much the upgrade CDs go for?

also, you said you just stopped in the dealer, put the CD and loaded and left. dont you need to keep the new CD in there? or you just leave the old one in?

The software CD's are just like computer software...load it and go. Your service advisor and tech should do it for free.......Phil
