2001 x5 navigation retrofit help
 
:tantrum: i have just install my 2001 x5 navigation retrofit but not working properly yet i need some assistance in wiring the on-board computer on my instruction to connect the wire to the instrument cluster the wire colour is different and i only have one wire goes to the cluster
on the wire harness i only have A5 i do not have A6 and the connection on the cluster there is a black connector and there is a white connector pin 1 on the black connector is brown/black wire and the white connector pin 1 is yellow red and the instruction direct to connect A 5 brown/red to pin 1 brown/red DFHL and A6 (which i Don't have) to pin 3 pin 1 on the black connector is brown/black and pin 1 on the white connector pin 1 is yellow/white
On the monitor do not display the time/date and does not read the on-board computer and does not respond to any seting
any one have any idea

The retro-fit instructions state:
"These installation instructions are only valid for cars with SA555 high on-board computer"

You need to change the entire instrument cluster from Low to High, fit the extra wiring and extra sensors required by the High cluster, then get it all programmed properly.

Can be done, takes time and effort. Google for instructions...

Note the brown/red is the DFAHL signal, which is the wheel pulse signal from the rear left wheel. You can tap into this signal on the ABS/DSC control unit if you want. On anywhere else where you see the same wire colour. Brown/red is always, and only, the DFAHL signal.

The reason you don't see time and date and the nav cannot work is because it is not getting the correct data over the ibus from the instrument cluster. The first thing the nav does when it starts up is ask the instrument cluster for time and data and vehicle/country settings. If the cluster doesn't respond, it won't work.

So firstly check the ibus connection exists - can you control the radio volume from the steering wheel? If so, the ibus connection from vehicle to nav system exists.

If your nav still doesn't operate, it is because the data is missing, because you have the Low instrument cluster

Joe Puma experienced this same thing and did a subsequent retrofit to the high on-board computer to resolve this.

OK, the ibus is all working properly.

You are not getting the trip computer data or the time/date data because you have the low cluster, and this cluster does not send out this data.

The only solution is to replace the existing 'low' instrument cluster with the 'high' instrument cluster.

Where did you find the pair of adaptor brackets (part numbers are 65900140347 and 65900140348) that are designed to bolt into place to give you all of the mounting points you need to retrofit the nav screen. I cannot find them anywhere.

The hi/low onboard computer is basically your instrument cluster. So you need to order a new instrument cluster with the high onboard computer. Check with Crevier. Should be approx $450 or so.
