However there is no change for the mk4 system - the firmware 9.1 (4-1/91) is the same within this new v30 distribution CD as it was in v29.1.

My guess: developement for mk4 has ended and no new release will be published. :mad:

Has anyone seen the BMW TSB for this version that describes the changes? We never posted one for V29.1 either.

KiwiJochen 10-09-2007 02:17 PM

Given that the Mk4 is still a production unit in the Z4 and X3 (any other models?), then you can, I am sure, be certain that any bug fixes will still occur throught the remainder of the production life of the Mk4 nav.

However whether BMW will introduce any new features is another question...

The MINI Cooper R52 Convertible still uses the MKIV nav unit and it will all the way through the 2009 model year. After that it will be updated to the 2nd generation body style and switch over to using the new MOST nav unit that's being used in the current production R56 hardtops (i.e. 2007+).

So let me get this straight, if I have the Mk4 NAV, there is no use in updating the firware to V30?

If you had already done the V29.1 update then that is correct.

Ok but I heard that there was no difference between V29.1 and the one just before it! Is that correct?

chusteveb 10-12-2007 04:41 PM

So out of curiosity, what would be the reason for this release if there is no difference?

There are updates for multiple types of Nav computer on the same disk, although not all of them need an update at the same time.

Also, maintenance has stopped on the older generations such as MKI, MKII & MKIII, but the last releases for these are still included.

chusteveb 10-12-2007 06:09 PM

Ok thanks! So if I understand correctly, this specific release v.30 is only different from v.29.1 for certain generations? Basicly everything but Mk4?

Everyone, please don't take the following as a challenge but rather as an inquiry. Normally where can we get the information to the questions asked regarding different releases? I mean, to those sharing your knowledge, please cite your source.

Correct, V30 updates the NAVI03 nav unit fitted to E65/E66 cars only.

V30 does not contain any changes for the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, NAVI01 or NAVI02 - all of which are included on the V30 OS disc.

I got this information by looking at the nav OS versions which are written on the V30 disc itself

BMW Navigation OS disk V30 contains:

<Navi> <SW version>
Mk1 = 8.0
Mk2 = 8.1 colour / 9.0 mono
Mk3 = 6.3 colour / 5.1 mono
Mk4 = 9.1 colour & mono (no change from V29)
NAVI01 = 7.3.2
NAVI02 = 8.4.4
NAVI03 = 9.6.04 (new!)

OS disk part number = 01 59 0 141 891, Index W

So yes, there are changes, and the changes affect the NAVI03, fitted to E65/E66

Don't have Toast.

RCNet 10-27-2007 11:34 AM

You already have all you need.

Eric,

If you are just wanting to burn the image file on a Mac with no editing or anything, you don't need Toast or any other fancy tool. You can just use the standard Disk Utility program that comes with MacOS X. It's located in the Utilities folder and you will see that there is an Images menu which allows you to do a bunch of housekeeping to images, including burn them.

Guys, I am running an MK4 with v28. Can somebody explain me the difference between v28 and v30? Thanks. ;)

KiwiJochen 10-30-2007 09:47 PM

You have v4-1/80.

V30 disc contains v4-1/91, which is a bug-fix version of 4-1/80.

Noone knows exactly what bugs have been fixed, and what types of vehicles are affected. But it is a bug-fix version and thus worth while.

bigbaba 10-30-2007 10:58 PM

Yes, you are right. That is exactly what I have. I guess that it may be worthy to upgrade. Any other thoughts before I try do it? :thumbup:

Does anyone have the Navigation system for the MK IV in the spanish language? I would like to have English and Spanish language and am not bothered what the third language is. If anyone knows where I can download the OS I would be vry greatful.

You will need to have the Mk IV recoded. Either at the dealer or yourself using NavCoder and a suitable i-bus interface (like the Resler one).

Not sure if you need the Nav OS disc after changing the language, but probably wouldn't hurt to download and burn a copy. Why not download NavCoder from the thread on this forum and see what options you get re. languages...

The MKIV supports 8 languages, and all eight languages are on the OS update disks. You have to code the MKIV for your language preferences, and that tells the MKIV which language files to load from the OS disk. So, you could get a dealer to change your language selections, or you could do it with NavCoder.

MKIV Language Choices
  • German - D
  • English (GB) - GB
  • English (American) - US
  • Italian - IT
  • Spanish - ES
  • Japanese - JP
  • French - FR
  • Dutch - NL

notease 12-20-2007 06:13 AM

anyone has a already got a modified V29 which will load Dutch language file's instead when choising English one's ?

Wooosh 12-26-2007 04:51 AM

Sad to see that an upgrade ( and I am afraid that is one of the last ones) does not push up this Nav OS to the 2007 standards. Pocket GpS are still doing ( and have done most of the time ) better ....:thumbdown

Do i need to convert the file to another format (if so, what and with that tool), or do i just put in the CD with the .RAR file into the MKIV..?

Hi!
of course: NO!

What do you do normally with a *.RAR-file?????
Correct! You unpack it!

Then you will have to burn the unpacked files with alcohol120% to a cd.

And then you can put the burned cd in the MKIV .......

HI,
i went through the PDF, and it seem like the update works on the E46, but bare with me little more... does this update work on all regions BMWs or is it for a specific region, i have a GPS function on the car and i dont want to loose it or loose any of the other features after the upgrade process

E5M1R 01-19-2008 03:52 PM

You can update you car nav with v30, region coding os not chanched with soft update.
You can only get problems if your MK unit was factory mono and aftermarket updated to color

Dieter09 02-20-2008 11:06 AM

Hello,

I currently have Sw4 1/80 installed (this is v28?)
I have a Belgian X5 with dutch satnav interface.
but my BC is german (example "Uhr 22:13", "reichw 722km")
When I update to v29.1, what will change?

With an english interface i would not have a problem.
But will other things change?

example:

KM => miles
EU version to USA? (dont know the difference)
Will I have an "accept" screen ?

Or will it only be the language?

Otherwise i will not update because i dont have an IBUS Interface to change this.

Thank you very much

EDIT: Is it possible to change the language or the region with navtweak? and how??

wrublee 02-23-2008 02:24 AM

Sorry if this question has been asked and answered previously. If so, I couldn't find it. I have MkII, 1/28 and trying to upgrade. Downloaded v30 .rar and unpacked it, which contained two files:

NAV_SW.mdf
NAV_SW.mds

I burned these to a CD, but the nav just spits it back out. I know I obviously did something wrong, but what?

The files are to be burned with image software such as alcohol120% Imgburn and so on, eaven Nero has the function advanced, burn image then open the file and burn

DT_ 02-29-2008 03:07 AM

Installed version 30 on my e39 with MK4 .. lost the ability to search for places using the text search whch was added with version 29. Im going to revert back to v29. Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone is thinking of upgrading. I dont think it makes any sense to do so since its clear that there are no new features added to I-Bus cars with MK4. Has anyone else come across the same?

KiwiJochen 02-29-2008 03:14 AM

OS disc v30 contains Mk4 software 4-1/91
OS disc v29 also contains Mk4 software 4-1/91

The Mk4 software version on the v30 OS disc is not changed from OS v29
OS v30 changed the E65/E66 software for the NAVI03.

Your problem may be related to something else, or you may have been using an older version than 4-1/91

thanks,

Travel Information is the European RDS-TMC system.
RDS=Radio Data System
TMC=Traffic Message Channel

Two key factors are required for TMC to work:

1. The map disc must have the TMC location database on the disc. If this exists, you can select travel info.
Once selected, TMC lights up red on the screen, as TMC is active, and looking for an RDS-TMC signal.

2. You must have an FM-RDS station in your area broadcasting the TMC data, and you must be tuned to it. One received, TMC lights up green on the screen.

I believe you are in the USA: I don't think anyone radio station broadcast RDS TMC data in the USA, and if they did, I don't think any maps exist for the Mk4 nav with a TMC database on them.

Regards, Jochen

I think that i will have to dissagree with you there, in the Information menu Travel Information is POI after going into that menu, you can chouse on location or on destination...... an then for instance hotells speedcams and so on (dont know exactly i run my on Swedish, tnx to you and navtweek)

As for the issue that it is grayed out...
Insert your nav cd/dvd into the pc and check if you have folder called TPD, if not then you have old version disk that dont carry POI.
Before software carried POI and not disks, that changed allong the way, so that could be your problem. One more thing can generate randome issues, and that is bad cd-r try a brand cd-r that might help

Oops, I read Traffic Info, not Travel Info, and mixed things up .-)

You are absolutely right: the Travel Information menu appears when the /TPD directory structure and associated files exist

NAVIGATION COMPUTER REPLACEMENT MK III AND MK IV
http://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/new.gif When replacing a defective MK III or MK IV NAV computer, a configuration signal is required to allow the new computer to load the correct software for its respective application. This is generated by using the SSS (Software Service Station) loaded with Progman V27.0 or higher and the Navigation System operating software CD V17.1 or V30.
  1. Connect the Deutronic battery charger to vehicle
  2. Connect the SSS via a diagnostic head or an O(P)PS (For D-CAN vehicles) to the vehicle
  3. Open a "New session" in Progman and select "Load SW" and follow the on-screen messages
  4. Select "Retrofits"
  5. Select "Languages"
  6. First select "Display" to select/check the correct languages
  7. Then select "Navigation" to select the languages for the NAV system
  8. At prompt "Is the CD-ROM present?" – select "Yes", but do not insert Navigation CD into the Nav Computer yet!
  9. First select the main language and then an additional language (the choices are: English, French, Italian, Spanish, German)
  10. NOTE: The announcer's voice gender (male or female) can't be selected anymore.
    • MK I, MK II & MK III: Only male.
    • MK IV (DVD NAV), NAVI01, NAVI02 & NAVI03: Only female
  11. After activation of the automatic coding, the DIS tester tells you to follow the instructions on the monitor for Navigation CD installation
  12. Place the Navigation CD into the navigation computer CD drive
Important: Do not switch ignition OFF during software loading procedure
  1. Once loading has been completed, remove the CD and then confirm completion by pressing the rotary push-button on the monitor
  2. Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds, then turn it ON and conduct a functional check
  3. After this step has been finished, encode the Navigation computer in the regular manner using the path "1 Recoding"
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
The following problems may occur during the software loading procedure:
  • The message "CD defective" appears on the display screen.
  • The message "Fault during programming" appears on the display screen.
  • The message "The system is restarting" appears on the display screen.
  • The installation process has stopped and the display screen is blank and the power LED on the navigation computer is off. The CD will not eject.
These complaints are usually the result of a faulty Navigation Operating software CD.
  • For points 1-3 for error messages that appear on the display screen, check for the correct software version and try loading a new Navigation CD.
  • For a CD that will not eject from the Navigation computer follow the procedure below:
    1. Remove the Navigation computer.
    2. Unplug the voltage supply (blue connector).
    3. Reconnect the voltage supply and immediately press the eject button repeatedly until the CD in the drive is ejected.

Oh I see. Can't help you there. Either post a new thread on the nav forum, or post to this thread which gets more hits:
