Newbie POI editing and UltraISO

Hi all,

Sorry I have tried searching but cannot get a step by step beginners guide on how to edit my ISO file for speed cameras. Also where to get the best data on current cameras. I have a 2007-2 HIGH MAP Disk and a 55 Plate X5 (IV DVD).

Any help or link much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Joules, welcome to the forum, the link you have posted is for the PRO version of the map disc, its along the same lines, but some of the details are a bit different.

Also the you need a different compiler for the camera database.

The best place to get the camera DB is pocketgpsworld, they have a a complete list.

This is the proceedure for the 2007-2 map disc

You will need UltraISO and Imgburn.

1) Make an ISO image of the 2007-2 DVD (using Imgburn, something like "C:\BMW\DVD200702.ISO").

Install Imgburn,
run imgburn,

Set mode "read" (third tab, along top)
Click on the destination (browse for a file icon)
Type in a name (in any dir that you want)
Put map dvd in drive
Press bottom icon (that looks like a cd-> cd on paper)
That will read a dvd and write it to a iso image (on you pc)
Eject dvd.
Close imgburn

Then open the image in UltrIso and the drag the eng.lsc file out of the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG" folder,
into the desktop (or any dir)

Open (textpad is what i use) the file with read/write pemisions.

Look for line (or similar, grp 70 is the POI menu tree)
TPD-GRP 70 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Add (104 the Camers menu option) to the menu list
TPD-GRP 70 104 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Then look for the line

TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS

And replace with
TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS
TPD-CAT 104 N SPEED CAMERAS
This sets up the speed cameras in the menu.

Then look for
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG

And replace with
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG
TPD-ICO 104 /ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG
This sets up the Speed camera Icons for the display

Then
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!

Replace with
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S024/ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S028/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
This sets up the where the icons will be accessed from (the htm files)

Then
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U

Replace with
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
TPD-SEA 104 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
this sets up the built-in cgi engine search for the POIS.

2) Download the Speed camera database in ASC form from Pocket GPS World, you need to subscribe to download,
but it only costs £2 for a month's subscription or £19 for a year. (use the navman download)

3) Download the following files into one folder:
a) POI Convertor
b) ASCI to IDX/URL Mk4 convertor - (I assume you have these, if not let me know and I'll email them to you)

4) Run the POI convertor on the .ASC file from Pocket GPS world, save it as a TomTom CII (cameras.asc) file.
This changes the structure slightly. you must do this bit.

5) Run the asc2idxurl_mk4.exe program from the command prompt in the folder you downloaded everything to,
make sure that there is only one .ASC file, the one saved from the POI convertor.
Use the following command line : asc2idxurl_mk4 ENG CAMERAS, this creates the two file below.

6) Rename CAMERAS.IDX to 0079.idx
7) Rename CAMERAS to 0080

8)Open UltraISO
a) File - Open CD/DVD - Open
b) Select the file "C:\BMW\DVD200702.ISO"

9)Modify this ISO image with these steps:
a) Add (drag n drop) camera_splash.jpg to the "\TPD\Icons" folder
b) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ICONS\RR" folder.
c) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ICONS\NAVIOX" folder.
d) Overwrite (drag n drop) the ENG.LSC file in the ""\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG" folder.
e) Add (drag n drop) 0079.idx to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
f) Add (drag n drop) 0080l to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
g) Add (drag n drop) SF_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG\SE" folder.
h) Add (drag n drop) ST_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG\SE" folder.

Now SAVE your now modded map disc ISO File

10) Burn your modified ISO image to a DVD-RW untill you are sure all is OK, then burn to a DVD-R.

11)Open imgburn
Menú Mode - ISO - Write
In "Source - select a file..." - click on the icon with the yellow folder
Select "C:\BMW\DVD200702_modded.ISO" - Open
In "Destination" it will show the model of DVD recorder, if you have various select where you want to record.
In "Settings - Write Speed", select "1x" (i go no higher than 4x speed)
Put a blank DVD into DVD recorder and "imgburn" will activate the gray button bottom-left to record it

If you need any more let me know.

Hope this helps

Regards

John

Hi John,

Thanks for this superb response and advice. I did go this route but found miss matches in the link you correctly appraised. Thus abandoned my ISO editing and got the 'pimp-my-nav' software. If I had your comprehensive guide I am sure I would have been OK.

I have to say 'pimp-my-nav' appears excellent and in no time at all I had my new disk and Speed Camera POI's on my Nav unit.

Shame more than 1 POI set cannot be shown at the same time.

Anyway, thanks again

would this work on a 2010 disc?

i had a try but couldn't find the line referring to TPD-ICO.

i would rather add the poi's manually than use pmn. :D

also if anyone has the patch to poison a 2010 please could i have a link.

thanks in advance.

ccfj1 07-30-2010 12:28 PM

Yes, it does work, but you may need to move some of the numbers around (as the newer disc has higher numbers).

The TPD-ICO has changed names but look for something that has the .png file locations, that will be the right one.

BTW male sure you get these numbers right or you wont see the icon on screen:-
G524-S024 (24 is the total amount of chars in the .png string).

You don't need the patch for adding POI's in this way (you only need the patch for adding the camera db directly into the carin db).

Yes, if you intend to POISon the map disc then you need the patch.

I'll send you a link for the modded map disc patch
