2008 Nav disk

Hi - sorry if this has been asked but couldn't see anything in search.

Does anyone know when the 2008-1 disk is due to be released? I was under the impression the 1 disk was around Oct/Nov and the 2 update is around May of the given year?

Cheers
Paul

European 2008-1 may have been release already according to Navteq website...

Yes, the 2008-1 euro disc is out, I've just added the UK speed cameras to it.

trapdoor 11-12-2007 12:24 PM

What would be nice would be a lookup facility on Navteq's website to see what (if any) updates/revisions/fixes were applied to that version.

As an example, my house has been built now for 7 years. I reported an issue with the 2003 DVD where my house number (or that of several of my neighbours) didn't register - as of 2007-2 they still haven't fixed it (or 3 other issues I reported).

It bothers me that they release 2 updates per year at £200+ and we have absolutely no idea whether it would be of benefit - no wonder people clone the DVD's. I only bought one from the stealer last time as it was a £99 upgrade....

senwar 11-14-2007 11:02 AM

Phoned my dealer this week and they said they're not expecting it till early 2008? Now I was posing as a new customer, not myself (I'm supposed to be getting a free upgrade).

Is this right? Seems odd the BMW will get it a few months AFTER its released?

Very disappointing really as it does seem a hell of a "faff" to get the 7 digit entry to work!

My 2008/1 disc does not support this?

This must be a modified disc! Why would it be UK postcodes for a euro disc!

:iagree: Someone has got hold of a UK Postcodes POI file and used something like 'pimp' to install it on the DVD.

Nice try but a bit of a cludge

What's interesting is that their must be a maximum size llimitation on IDX or URL files otherwise why do the 26 letter menu breakdown? A better approach would be to search the whole thing rather than first letter.

What's even more interesting is that the 26 PIO files would actually fit on the DVD in the first place! 26M Residential and 10M Business at last count.

I wonder where the base postcode / long / lat data was acquired from? The UK Postcode Address File (PAF) is heavily encrypted to prevent exploding the whole file in this way. TomTom ov2 maybe? Any ideas?

You just go to seedpeer.com and search for it. You will find it immediately.

Can only find Pro not High that has seeders....

Pro is out for sure. High is coming perhaps soon. Anyway what is the difference?

Does anyone know if European 2008-1 includes Greece?

rossy 01-02-2008 06:05 PM

Think its for differant versions of the Nav drive although I upgraded mine to the 29.1 version with 3d etc...I just know that mine only works with HIGH. I have had Pro version in the past and just comes up with
“Unrecognised disk” but took a copy of my mates High 2006-1 DVD from his X5 and that works a treat. I realy want Speed Cams on it and only have the instructions for the 2008-1 disk.

High was out before Pro. High version is for MK IV navigation system (E39, E46, E53), and Pro is for newer cars (E60, E93,...)

ccfj1 01-30-2008 08:52 AM

You will need UltraISO (or similar) and Imgburn. (it's free)

1) Make an ISO image of the 2008-1 DVD (using Imgburn, something like "C:\BMW\DVD200801.ISO").

Install Imgburn,
run imgburn,

Set mode "read" (third tab, along top)
Click on the destination (browse for a file icon)
Type in a name (in any dir that you want)
Put map dvd in drive
Press bottom icon (that looks like a cd-> cd on paper)
That will read a dvd and write it to a iso image (on you pc)
Eject dvd.
Close imgburn

Then open the image in UltrIso and the drag the eng.lsc file out of the "/TPD/nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801/ENG" folder,
into the desktop (or any dir)

Open (textpad is what i use) the file with read/write pemisions.

Look for line (or similar, grp 70 is the POI menu tree)
TPD-GRP 70 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Add (104 the Camers menu option) to the menu list
TPD-GRP 70 104 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Then look for the line

TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS

And replace with
TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS
TPD-CAT 104 N SPEED CAMERAS
This sets up the speed cameras in the menu.

Then look for
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG

And replace with
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG
TPD-ICO 104 /ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG
This sets up the Speed camera Icons for the display

Then
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!

Replace with
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S024/ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S028/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
This sets up the where the icons will be accessed from (the htm files)

Then
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U

Replace with
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
TPD-SEA 104 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
this sets up the built-in cgi engine search for the POIS.

2) Download the Speed camera database in TomTom OV2 form from Pocket GPS World, you need to subscribe to download,
but it only costs £2 for a month's subscription or £19 for a year. (use the navman download)

3) Download the following files into one folder:
a) POI Convertor
b) ASCI to IDX/URL Mk4 convertor

I've zipped both files in this zip.
http://www.4shared.com/file/29710965..._setup318.html

4) Run the POI convertor on the .OV2 file from Pocket GPS world, save it as a TomTom asc (cameras.asc) file.
This changes the structure slightly. you must do this bit.

5) Run the asc2idxurl_mk4.exe program from the command prompt in the folder you downloaded everything to,
make sure that there is only one .ASC file, the one saved from the POI convertor.
Use the following command line : asc2idxurl_mk4 ENG CAMERAS, this creates the two file below.

6) Rename CAMERAS.IDX to 0079.idx
7) Rename CAMERAS to 0080

8) Open UltraISO
a) File - Open CD/DVD - Open
b) Select the file "C:\BMW\DVD200801.ISO"

9) Modify this ISO image with these steps: (icons and htm files are in the zip bellow)
a) Add (drag n drop) camera_splash.jpg to the "\TPD\Icons" folder
b) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ICONS\RR" folder.
c) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ICONS\NAVIOX" folder.
d) Overwrite (drag n drop) the ENG.LSC file in the ""\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG" folder.
e) Add (drag n drop) 0079.idx to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
f) Add (drag n drop) 0080l to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070603\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
g) Add (drag n drop) SF_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ENG\SE" folder.
h) Add (drag n drop) ST_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ENG\SE" folder.

Now SAVE your now modded map disc ISO File

10) Burn your modified ISO image to a DVD-RW untill you are sure all is OK, then burn to a DVD-R.

11)Open imgburn
Menú Mode - ISO - Write
In "Source - select a file..." - click on the icon with the yellow folder
Select "C:\BMW\DVD200801_modded.ISO" - Open
In "Destination" it will show the model of DVD recorder, if you have various select where you want to record.
In "Settings - Write Speed", select "1x" (i go no higher than 4x speed)
Put a blank DVD into DVD recorder and "imgburn" will activate the gray button bottom-left to record it

If you need any more let me know.

Hope this helps

Can this be used to graft the TMC information form the 2006 BMW cd to the non-TMC 2008 disc?

I guess the real question is - are the TMC codes a POI, or is it something more....SINISTER?

No, i don't think so, there is a directory on the CD that holds the TMC code, but I don't think that you can just cut and paste it into a non TMC enabled map CD, better to gat the TMC enabled disc.

No TMC is not a POI
The file that enables TMC is in root directory and called CARINET

hi ccfj1

I have tried the process that you listed below with camera DB for UK four times now on the lastest 2008-1 DVD but all attempts have failed. the map is read correclty by the car, but when i go to search for the Speed Camera in the information menu, nothing appears on the screen.

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?
Can you please please PM me your files (without the camera DB!) and i'll try and use them along with my cameraDB and see if they work?

thanks in advance

Can you please please PM me your files (without the camera DB!) and i'll try and use them along with my cameraDB and see if they work?

thanks in advance

Check your pm mate :)
