Review: Pimp my Nav
 

Hi there,

in this thread I would like to do a review on pimp-my-nav
, the PC tool for adding POI's on your BMW NAV Factory CD or DVD.

I used the program now for a couple of months.

I must say it's a great tool to add aditional POI's to BMW's fixed Nav-system.

I tried DVD High 2007 en DVD High 2008 on a MK4.

It's almost the same as you add Poi's to a TomTom. First the tool can checks wich version of DVD you have. In the next screen it will show the menu structure of POI's on the DVD.

Now you can add submenu/catagories or direct new POI's.
It's a very logical en simple tool. So BMW POI's for dummies.

In the next menu you can add OV2 files, like the ones on a TomTom of various other formats from other NAV systemens. ALso you can add a icon for that type of POI like you where used to do.

After adding all POI's you wanted with ther specific icon, the tool will create a new ISO file. After the ISO file is ready, the will burn it directly on a new DVD (R or RW, + or -)

After the burningproces is finished, put the DVD in your MK4 and enjoy your new POI's. As simple as that.

Please any comments to this review, it's definatly worth the Sticky mark.

Programmes like that, just like the NavCoder tool, will make people enjoy their cars even more, keep up the good work!!!

I Have the 2008-2 HIGH...It´s 5,15 gb and pimp-my nav is not supporting DL (dual layer) DVD...

the problem is Used dvd space..its full.....any suggestions anyone?

I´m thinking of delete some languages such as french,spanish and italian,so i can add some pois instead and burn it on a single layer dvd..
But the question is how do i delete the languages that i don´t need?

Obtain the latest update for Pimp-My-Nav that adds support for the larger capacity dual layer DVD media.

I just want to share my experience with PMN and its support:
I don´t know of any software company that gives fix in such a short time..I´m very impressed of this prg and ,it´s the best on the market if you asked me..

You need a code to aktivate the software. The code was generated with your personally PC ID.
Only install the software have no positiv effect. :dunno:

How long does it usually take to receive the activation code?

has been several days now and still no answer to my request allthough I aready paid and immediately requested for the activation code.

The anti-spam software used by some ISP's quarantines the email with the registration code. Try another email address.

Ok, I've done a few things!
I have downloaded all the POI's for the following countries:
Norway (I live here...), Sweden, Denmark and Finland. So it's basically a Scandinavian Edition v1.0 :)

I'm burning it all now - hope it's going to work...
I've spent over 300$ on all the software, POI downloads and the map for Western & Eastern DVD-map.

Wow! Great NEWS! I've got it all to work - just as I wanted!

Here is the things I've added to the NAV-DVD:

- Full map coverage of the following countries:
AD, AT, BE, CH, CZ, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR,
GB, GI, GR, HR, HU, IE, IT, LI, LU, MC, NL,
NO, PL, PT, RU, SE, SI, SK, SM and VA.
- All speed cams for Europe (Western & Eastern)
- POI's for Norway
- POI's for Sweden
- POI's for Denmark
- POI's for Finland

It turned out REALLY good..!! :thumbup:

(I've also tried it while driving and it worked like a charm...)

Yepp or spend the 40$ on pimp my nav and do it your self.......

Hi from a newbie.
Great info. much appreciated. Just bought an 06 325xi. I get that it has a mk4 Nav, but I read it has the Pro version (instead of High) to make them "encoded slightly differently to make them incompatible". Can I still use pimp my Nav?
And does it edit my BMW Nav DVD or do I use a new DVD and which kind?

If the map format is still the same and the updates can be loaded via DVD (i.e. like the VW RNS510), then there's a chance, but we don't know yet.

is there somebody, who use PMN and 2009-1 professional europe mad?
Did the dvd works?

I have a problem with PMN and since the version 2008-2 professional europe map with eastern europe. The problem is, that I cant navigate to a new poi, like mcdonalds, then the screen for looking, where the next mcodnalds is, is empty.
But the icons of mcdonalds are on the screen...

With the high disc, it works fine without any problems.

I used it in Professional version (2009-1) as well as the High version (both lite, 4.5Gb) and PimpMyNav worked without a problem...

But will have to check for that specific problem you describe (not finding a POI that appears on screen...)

On the High, can you 'filter' custom POI's? I mean, do a search for a POI category you have added, and enter part of the name to limit restuarants to burger king, for example. I have never been able to do this on my custom POI's, but it works on the preloaded ones, and I was wondering if it was something I was doing wrong when creating the disk?

Anyone? Are you able to filter your custom POI's or is this a limitation of the software?

Question (s) about PMN
 

1.When I import camera database, a box 'Append' appears asking me whether I want to append this to an existing POI. This box is difficult to get rid off. CLicking yes, no, or cancel doesn't work unless I click cancel about a dozen times. Any ideas what this is?

2. When I go on to 'Create ISO', the 'next' button greys out but nothing else happens for hours. No sign of any activity in the computer or any sign of progress on the progress bar.

3. Is UltraISO mandatory? If so, will the trial version suffice? In my frustration, I committed the ultimate sin of getting a copy via UTorrent and got al sorts of Trojans (for my sins). I am willing to pay for the UltraISO, if it is absolutely necessary. Is it?

4. I have reinstalled Windows to get rid of the junk. (BTW, McAfee was ineffective in preventing or successfully removing the Trojans), but this requires another activation. I must say the activation process is painful. First time I got the code by e-mail after an hour or so but after the re-install, I have been waiting like 6 hours, but no e-mail. Maybe (and hopefully) because it is Sunday! Is there an easier way of activating the software?

Edit: I note that after I restart my computer (after the Windows updates etc.), the PMN 'challenge' key changes, so that I need to send yet another e-mail canceling the first request. Is ther a phone number I can call instead as email delay means, once I generate a 'challenge key', I can't shut my computer off untill I get the e-mail with the activation code. Surely, there is an easier way?

Further Edit: Most of the above is sorted now. It seems I do need UltraISO to make it idiot proof and have ordered it.

First time of posting for me although I have been reading various threads for a while now. I have found this site very informative!

My question is, would you use this software to add a postcode database to a map and thus enabling the 7 digit postcode search mentioned in other threads?
I have the new 2009-2 high map, but this is just the standard OEM map and doesn't have the option to use 7 digit.

PS. I have used the search function but haven't found anything that points to how to add the database.

The High-DVD won´t work in a Prof and this can´t give the postcode-option. It´s only possible in the NAV03...

Speedcam POI icon not displayed.
 

I just Pimped my Europe HIGH 2009-2 DVD and now having problem displaying the Speedcam icons.

I imported a new european TomTom speedcam database from www.scdb.info and successfully burned a DVD DL with the new speedcam menus and icons.

The speedcam meny appears in the MKIV display and it lists and find all speedcams. But when navigating its not displaying any Icons. When choosing petrol stations or what ever it displays, but not the Speedcam. I used the speedcam icon delivered with the TomTom ov2 file.

What is wrong?

Has anyone ordered pimp my nav recently?

I paid via their website/paypal yesterday (now over 24hrs ago) and have not heard anything.

I also can't find an email address on the website to contact with alternative email addresses in case of spam filter etc

It seems that Pimp-My-NAV is incompatible with a map disk that has been updated with POIson. Would the developer of Pimp-My-Nav please investigate.

Hi everybody

I'm thinking about getting PIMP-MY-NAV.
However, after trying to contact PMN via their website's contact form twice during the last months (without getting any answer) and experiencing now, that the contact form doesn't work at all since days, I'm not willing to risk any money for a software where there's no support availiable.
This is very sad as PMN seems to be a pretty neat tool for a reasonable price.

Does anybody have an email address of PMN or has been in contact with PMN lately?

Navteq maps issue
 

Hi to all,
like everybody probably knows,in the CD maps of Navteq there is not tpd folder for POIs. The POIs are just in the map database CarinDb. This can be seen in POIsOn program. When I open such CD with PMN in order to import custom POIs, the program says that this is navigation disk that does not currently support POI and suggest to try to add the POI data structures. After the whole procedure I have a working CD with set of custom POIs, but the MK4 navigation doesn't see the original POIs from Navteq already. In the Information option of the navigation there is only my custom POIs. Have you encountered this problem and is there a solution for keeping the original POIs?

I do not use PMN but I do manually update the DVD inserting new POIs categories and I still can see all original POIs.

Yes, but this is when you use DVD. In DVD version of the map, the POIs are in the TPD folder and MK4 reads original and the added POIs without problems. In case with CD map, original POIs are in CarinDb and after insertion of custom POIs the original are not readable.

I use CD map for MK4 because the CD map is with better coverage for East Europe then DVD (High), especially for Bulgaria ;).

TomTom uses Teleatlas maps which I already have on CD maps :nanana:. The new Navteq's 2011-2012 CD map is even better ;). Now I'm waiting for the new High DVD 2011-2012 with good coverage for East Europe and will be happy. Then my question will be pointless :).

Does anyone know if Pimp-My-Nav has stopped trading/gone on holiday/died? I paid nearly 2 weeks ago and heard nothing. Now claiming a refund via Paypal :-(

How did you get on in the end?

A serial number eventually turned up. Not sure what they're playing at but I most definitely wouldn't recommend using them. What a shame as it's a product that seems well respected let down by poor customer service.
