MK3 - changing splash screen
Hi,
I found KiwiJochen's instructions about changing MK3's splash screen . He wrote that we need mode2cdmaker 1.6 Ubik + binary files from 1.5.1 + "the modified mode2cdmaker.exe from me" . Unfortunately this link doesn't work http://es.geocities.com/dextstuff/mode2cdmaker.html (site works , but links to files are expired) . I can't find those files on any other sites , I've been looking for in google though . Could somebody send me those 2 mode2cdmakers and the modified one to 0refugee0 at gmail.com or upload 'em ? If not , where can I download all those files ? Regards, Refugee |

If you click Save As it will convert the image to Mode1... so don't click Save As MagicISO is MUCH easier than mode2cdmaker Jochen |
Thanks jochen I'll try that :)

Great , I've finally manged to burn a working MK3 soft witch changed the splash screen . But now the problem is I can't work out how to load the voice files ?
I replaced few words and saved it as gb_f . I burned a mode2 mk3 cd and it installed , but in the language menu there was only german and it was set as a defalut language . How should I burn them ? ( the same voices work on MK4 ) |

Hi,

Hi there... could i also have a pm regarding the "modified" version? THANKS!
|
Hey, I've got interest in this also. I've been playing around with this, and actually have some modified splash screen discs that I burned, but it turned out they were mods for the mark IV system.
Can someone post a link to a modded mark III splashscreen file? |
Splashscheen GIF image is the same, you can use the image for Mk3 or Mk4
|
Hello!
I too would be very interested to get my hands on the modified mode2cdmaker in order to mod my Mk3. Best regards, /Erik |
Hi
Could one of you also send the "the modified mode2cdmaker.exe" to me. If I understand it correct: In order to change menu texts and spoken language I need to extract an original nav sw. I am trying with V25 for my MK3. I can then edit the files: Menu text: \MK3\0116\BMWC01S\app_sw\usw_load (Edit/translate German to Danish with NavTweak.exe) Spoken language: \langMK3\0501\ (rename dk_f.csf to d_f.csf an replace the original d_f.csf) Change version number in lmg_rel.tbl & sw_rel.tbl to "30 30 30 30" (0000) with hex editor to force the software update. \MK3\0116\BMWC01S After editing I simple drag & drop all files from the extracted ISO file including the new ones to the m2cdgui.exe window. Enter a file name in "Save image to" and set volumen name to "NAV_SAT" and select "write ISO" to get a mode2 ISO image? Some say that MagicISO can do the same. I have tried but MagicISO keep changing to mode1 when saving the file. My MK3 keeps going into endless loop after starting loading the software. I hope the "the modified mode2cdmaker.exe" will help this problem. Do I also need m2cdmGUI 1.6 ??? email: [email protected] best regards Klaus Thanks Best regards |
Far too hard. Use Magic ISO and just drag and drop the files as needed.

Indeed, open the mode2 image in MagicISO do the mods (D-n-D), the save (not save as).
Modded mode2convertor attached. |
Thanks ccfj1 and KiwiJochen
I have done this little test with MagicISO and it still not working: In MagicISO ”Open CD driver” and read the CD. Set “Files”->”Properties”->”Optimes” to “Keep the original file names” Then Save (Save as ISO file) Open the saved file again. Set “Files”->”Properties”->”Optimes” to “Keep the original file names” Navigate to \MK3\0116\BMWC01S DnD lmg_rel.tbl & sw_rel.tbl to desktop Change version number from 0630 to 0000 with Hex Editor Neo to force the software update. (only thing tkat I change for this test) DnD the two files back. Save file. If I then open the file with ImgBurn to check the Mode it say mode1!!! Then burn with “Burn current compilation” button in MagicISO anyhow with mode2. I open the door, switch ignition on, wait for navi to boot, insert the disk. It says wait a moment, loading software, go blank and nothing more happens….LED on nav comp. is off. Those of you that say MagicISO will work, do you have MK3 in the car? Mode1 will work with MK4 but not MK3. |
what version of magiciso do you have??
|
MagicISO version5.5
I can see you have MK4. Then you will have no problem whether the CD is mode1 or mode2. |
I have both a mk3 and a mk4 and all the images I make are mod2/form1 so that they work in both the mk3 and the mk4.
V5.5 works fine with me... If the image is not mode2 already then make one, (use mode2convertor and m2cdmgui), then save as a mode2, (this is what I do, I don't bother with magiciso). Then you can open the mode2 image (normally a .bin) then do the changes, then save (not save as), and it keep the Original file mode. You can not open a mode1 image and save as a mode2 image, it does not work like that, it must be mode2 first. HTH |
What do you open the mode2 imag with if you don't use Magiciso?
When I DnD and then save with magiciso it convert my mode2 image to mode1. I can't get my m2cdmgui to work now !!! It keeps saying it can't find mode2cdmaker!! |
Can you make me and image with danish spoken language if I send you the language file?

I then run the m2cdmgui and DnD ALL the files into the window, Then volume name = "NAV_SW" and create .bin file. save image to = "v32_modded" bingo, one mode2 image. Quote:

I did it! It works now.
I moved mode2cdmaker and the folder with all my files to the root of the C-drive. Now it works. |
Nice one, do all the language and txt changes now work too ?

I'm having similar issues upgrading my Rover mk3 which is at 3-1/31, I've tried several different images, ranging from OEM to modified. mode2convertor and m2cdmgui work fine, but I always get "Incorrect CD" when I try to upgrade. I've tried, MagicISO, ImgBurn and Clonecd, to write the images. 3 different brands of discs and 3 different drives. All I've succeeded in doing is making a pile of coasters :(. Any ideas?

There are no newer versions You cannot load BMW software onto a Rover Mk3, the boot mode prevents it. If you want a Mk3 with BMW 3-1/63 software, then you must fit a BMW nav |
Ouch, I was told (mislead) that the Rover unit could run the BMW software and do split screen etc. Thanks for the info.
|
Technically it can if you can change the boot mode
But noone knows how - apart from desoldering the flash ram chips, and then manually reflashing. But you need tools for that. |
*sigh*, I'm resigned to not being able to get split screen I guess. Is it at least possible to remove the land rover splash screen that it has? I tried using navtweak but the disc layout is quite different from the BMW disc and I'm not sure where to look.

And the existing tools work with BMW nav, not with Range Rover nav. |
Dump the rover unit and buy a bmw one, then you can have the splash and splitscreen.
