High/Professional/Business/Premium and Nav Software Versions

Hi all,

First off I should apologise as I don't have an X5. Did have and found this site the source for so much info. Now I've a 2002 E39 with a upgraded Mk III -> Mk IV Sat Nav. Searched this site and others and have to say that you guys rock in the Sat Nav knowledge department - hence I thought I'd ask this here.

My screen is the widescreen one that plays TV through it. I'm looking to update my maps and a friend has lent me his backup version of Navteq Professional 2008-1 Europe with speedcameras. However, when I try to install it I get the message 'Incorrect CD/DVD...'. Is this a likely to be a purely burnt backup or is it that my MK IV can't take this new version. My firmware is the v.29 (91).

Equally not sure how to tell the difference from High / Professional / Business and Premium. Any suggestions which one I am likely to have with the widescreen?

Appreciate any information you can lend to the subject.

Kind regards and thanks.

  • DVD High = MK4 E39, E46, E53, E65 etc.
  • DVD Business = Navi Business E60, E90 etc.
  • DVD Professional = Navi Professional E60, E90 etc.

    Best regards

    Michael

And most simple one, you do know what car your friend has ......
If it works in his and he has high version it should work on yours as well.
Some MK iV are more sencitive to burned media, so i would recomend DVD-R of a known brand burned at 2x (just dont buy cheap DVD)

As for the diferences if you read the thread there is detailed info on diferences in file structure between the systems

Thanks guys,

That helps a lot, my friends car is 2007 so that will make it a Professional version disk. Although my Mk IV is aftermarket (and therefore I don't know what model it came out of, the chances are that it will still be a High system).

Is there a way of telling whether the DVD reader is a High or Professional if it's not actually installed in a car?

Final question, and thanks for your assistance so far is, how can I tell what version my mapping is? When I purchased my Mk 4 it came with a backup DVD in it but I don't know what year or version the mapping software is, is there a quick easy file that will tell me what year/version my mapping software is?

Cheers

All MK III IV are high, NAV02 NAV03 are pro, or if i put it this way, all cars with i drive buissnis or pro, cars with no i drive high

Difference between High/pro & business

Hi

Like you I too do not have an X5 but it's a BMW all the same. Mine is an E65 730d SE

However, I understand the main diference is the ability to display actual pictures of MAPS and show the direction of travel/due north and perspective. High will do this whereas the others will only show pointers showing direction to travel/trun in with corresponding voice commands - Ve Haf Vays off making you obey!

Not all iDrive cars use the professional map disks.

MKIV, NAVI02, and NAVI03 are all high (The E65/E66 7 Series uses the same disks as the MKIV, despite the fact it has iDrive)
CCC are professional (CCC systems are in new 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, and X5)

The high/business/pro map disks are more about the digital format and content of the map data, not the way it appears on the screen. All of the computers, independent of map disk version, can show direction of travel and pointing north. Only the MKIV, NAVI02, NAVI03, and CCC nav computers can display the perspective view. However, NAVI02 computers display a crude version of perspective, where you get the fake horizon and clouds on the others.

Still a little in the dark though as to which version of mapping software I have installed. I can see many 2007-1's on Ebay etc for not too much. However, would not be impressed if the untitled backup copy that came with the car, was the same 2007-1 or worse still a 2007-2! So is there a quick and easy way of finding out what version it is? e.g. through the BMW Sat Nav interface as you do with the firmware.

All the best

if you put your nav cd/dvd in your pc drive you will se some folders in root of the cd directory open TPD folder and there you will se some more folders, one of them will have date stamp 2007-1 should have ben dated in late 2006 probably 2006-08, 2007-2 is dated in early 2007 and so on
The image attached is from eu 2008-1

Top Banana 'E5M1R'

Did as you said and it would appear that I already have a 2007-1, so no need to buy another disk yet.

Thanks ever so much for the information and the prompt reply sir.
