2008-01 - Euro DVD - no speed cam option?

Hi Folks

New to this site as I have an E65 730d (07) but as another said you guys seem to be the "bees Knees" on Sat Nav for BMW.

I have the latest software with perspective view and the 2007-02 'high' DVD but I "got" the 2008-01 high DVD but it doesn't give me the option to show speed cameras in the "VIEW" menu as does the 2007-02.

This could be a "euro" version and not a UK specific one but other than language options (still speaks English and shows in English) I cannot find the speed-cam display.

Anybody else got this problem? If anyone wants to download the ISO I can put it on my server - not that quick but all in one place - contact off list for that (also for V30 software)

The original version of all DVDs does not have speed cameras.
If you want to have speed cameras (or other POIs) you have to "extend" your DVD by specific files.....

peterpan 02-21-2008 11:02 AM

And how does one do this? are there files for France, Spain, Germany, etc? Where do I get these?
Dealers don't appear to know of this anomaly or are they keeping quiet?

Welcome to the forum,

You will need UltraISO and Imgburn.

1) Make an ISO image of the 2008-1 DVD (using Imgburn, something like "C:\BMW\DVD200801.ISO").

Install Imgburn,
run imgburn,

Set mode "read" (third tab, along top)
Click on the destination (browse for a file icon)
Type in a name (in any dir that you want)
Put map dvd in drive
Press bottom icon (that looks like a cd-> cd on paper)
That will read a dvd and write it to a iso image (on you pc)
Eject dvd.
Close imgburn

Then open the image in UltrIso and the drag the eng.lsc file out of the "\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801\ENG" folder,
into the desktop (or any dir)

Open (textpad is what i use) the file with read/write pemisions.

Look for line (or similar, grp 70 is the POI menu tree)
TPD-GRP 70 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Add (104 the Camers menu option) to the menu list
TPD-GRP 70 104 551 557 7522 750 5540 7897

Then look for the line

TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS

And replace with
TPD-CAT 103 N CASINOS
TPD-CAT 104 N SPEED CAMERAS
This sets up the speed cameras in the menu.

Then look for
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG

And replace with
TPD-ICO 103 /ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG
TPD-ICO 104 /ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG
This sets up the Speed camera Icons for the display

Then
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!

Replace with
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 103 G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S024/ICONS/RR/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 104 G508-G524-S028/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_CAMERA.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
This sets up the where the icons will be accessed from (the htm files)

Then
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U

Replace with
TPD-SEA 103 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
TPD-SEA 104 http://tpdhost/cgi/form?templ=/ENG/S...M&UNIT=%23%23U
this sets up the built-in cgi engine search for the POIS.

2) Download the Speed camera database in ASC form from Pocket GPS World, you need to subscribe to download,
but it only costs £2 for a month's subscription or £19 for a year. (use the navman download)

3) Download the following files into one folder:
a) POI Convertor
b) ASCI to IDX/URL Mk4 convertor - (I assume you have these, if not let me know and I'll email them to you)

4) Run the POI convertor on the .ASC file from Pocket GPS world, save it as a TomTom CII (cameras.asc) file.
This changes the structure slightly. you must do this bit.

5) Run the asc2idxurl_mk4.exe program from the command prompt in the folder you downloaded everything to,
make sure that there is only one .ASC file, the one saved from the POI convertor.
Use the following command line : asc2idxurl_mk4 ENG CAMERAS, this creates the two file below.

6) Rename CAMERAS.IDX to 0079.idx
7) Rename CAMERAS to 0080

8)Open UltraISO
a) File - Open CD/DVD - Open
b) Select the file "C:\BMW\DVD200702.ISO"

9)Modify this ISO image with these steps:
a) Add (drag n drop) camera_splash.jpg to the "\TPD\Icons" folder
b) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801\ICONS\RR" folder.
c) Add (drag n drop) POI_CAMERA.PNG to the "\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801\ICONS\NAVIOX" folder.
d) Overwrite (drag n drop) the ENG.LSC file in the ""\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_200708011\ENG" folder.
e) Add (drag n drop) 0079.idx to the "\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
f) Add (drag n drop) 0080l to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ENG\TABLES\0" folder.
g) Add (drag n drop) SF_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeu_eu_20070801\ENG\SE" folder.
h) Add (drag n drop) ST_CAMERAS.HTM to the "\TPD\nccBeuFNM_eu_20070801\ENG\SE" folder.

Now SAVE your now modded map disc ISO File

10) Burn your modified ISO image to a DVD-RW untill you are sure all is OK, then burn to a DVD-R.

11)Open imgburn
Menú Mode - ISO - Write
In "Source - select a file..." - click on the icon with the yellow folder
Select "C:\BMW\DVD200801_modded.ISO" - Open
In "Destination" it will show the model of DVD recorder, if you have various select where you want to record.
In "Settings - Write Speed", select "1x" (i go no higher than 4x speed)
Put a blank DVD into DVD recorder and "imgburn" will activate the gray button bottom-left to record it

If you need any more let me know.

Hope this helps

Hello,

is this the only solution for get speed cameras to the e65?
If I understand you, I must delete an original poi and then insert to this the new poi?
The dvd, which I made for me and it works on my e46 doesnt work on the e65?

Not sure there are a few web sites out ther that will do this also, however they all seem to do it the same way.

You add a POI not replace one, I know it works for the HIGH and PRO versions of the map discs, I've not tried it for the 08-2 versions (H or P) yet, as I've not seen one.

E65 is a PRO disc I think, it should work, the 08-1 PRO disc I made up for a friend works fine.

Thorsten 07-09-2008 03:15 AM

HI,

E65 is a High disc, the same for E46 and E53.

Thorsten

ccfj1 07-09-2008 08:13 AM

I'll add that to the list then thanks, i thought that only these were I-bus.

iBus cars only (E38, E39, E46, E53, E83, E85, Range Rover Mk III, Rover 75, R50, R52 and R53 Mini).

I could be that the E65 uses the carin DB direct and not the POI menu as with the e46's MK4, (ie: the same way that the mk3 does), this would explain why the added POI'S don't dispaly, but thats just a guess.

Does the E65 use a mk4?

Thorsten 07-09-2008 08:19 AM

Hm,

I doesnt know, but I think yes.

E65 uses a NAVI01, NAVI02 or NAVI03

NAVI01 is similar to a Mk3

NAVI02 and NAVI03 are similar to Mk4

A lot of the nav is the same, but the graphic and menus are different, the LCD screen size is different, and the nav has a MOST fibre-optic interface.

The NAVI03 reads the same maps as a Mk4.

As far as I understand this instruction (above) is for inserting cameras into map, but without voice (or message) warning, correct?

Scuba 07-10-2008 02:13 AM

And one more question: in some maps there is no folder TPD (only files like abstract, carindb, bibliogr, carinet and copyright)..... But at the same time some POIs are exists.... What is for such maps?

ccfj1 07-10-2008 03:12 AM

I depends on what map disc you have and what system you have.

Some systems (like the mk3) use the carindb as this holds all the POI info and the system uses that file for all nav functions, however some systems will use the files in the TPD folder if they exsist (e46,e39 with a mk4 etc).

If you you use a map disc the has no TPD folder in the mk4 then I doubt that you could "add" your own POI's, just a thought.

This is what I want to try - add this folder (from another map) and see what will happens.... The question is - will navi see both places where POIs are (carindb and TBD folder) or only one

P.S.: I have MK4

Mk4 and later can read the \TPD\ directory (TPD = third party data)

Mk3 can only read embedded POI info in the carindb file

Therefore adding extra POIs is only possible on Mk4 and later systems.

Unless you work for VDO and can compile a new carindb file :-)

Scuba 07-10-2008 01:50 PM

Kiwi, If MK4 reads TPD for me it is not necessary to compile carindb 'cause I have MK4;) ...... My question is - I have the map, on the disk there is no TPD folder but some POIs are exists..... now for me it's clear that they are implemented (somehow) into carindb file. But if I add modified TPD folder will navi reads both POIs (carindb and TPD) or only from one source.....

But I would not mind as well to know how to compile carindb..... but not for POI;)

It will read only from one source: carindb or TPD, but not both

Your OR gives me the reason to hope that I'll succeed! Is there a chance to select the source?........ Hmm... I think not!:(

Only way to change is to change the map disc

I understand..... evrything depends from carindb file...... as far as I understand in this file should be mentioned somehow where POIs should be taken..... But the map which I use now do not have TPD folder so..... I thought to add this folder (from another map) and add cameras there.....

So the only one variant - to wait till Easten Europe 2008-2 would be released and pray that TPD would be there separately!:(

Pimp-My-Nav will optionally add the TPD structure to HIGH maps that don't have it. You need to populate this with your own POI data though, as the original data in the carindb file cannot be accessed.

Scuba 07-14-2008 01:21 AM

Are you sure? Thank's for the advise I'll try!

Scuba 07-15-2008 01:03 AM

So now is the question - where or how can I test it 'cause I don't want to pay money if this program is useless for me...........
