Nav System Version

Hi All,

I am a bit confused about the differences in the navigation system versions and my dealership is not being much of a help on the subject. I have an 04 X5 with a DVD based Nav version. When I go to the settings screen, the version reads 4-1/20.

I was in my friends M3 tonight and noticed that his map looks more "3D" than mine, it is almost that it has a little more depth/texture. I wondering if there is a newer version of my Nav software that can do this? My dealership said today that my software is the latest and there is no such thing as an upgrade, I called around and they all seem to tow this line.

Any advice/is this in fact true? I have noticed all the posts about nav versions and was wondering if it is worth upgrading or even possible on my X (and does it void any warranty). If so, what new features are there?

Thanks so much! I appreciate all your help to a newbie X5er!

Version 4-1/20 is a really early version of the OS and your dealer is talking rubbish.

Version 4-1/00 (v31 - 10.0) is the latest and you can download and burn a copy yourself.

Download here; http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...available.html

Grab a copy of imgburn ( http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download ), get a good blank CD and burn and x1 speed. (this is what I do, others do it at the min write speed of the disc, it's up to you).

Then follow this procedure to update your nav.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the nav computer and press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Thats it.

Do not swich off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Also, once updated you can have 3D perspective mode, to enable this, Perspective mode needs to be enabled in 2 places,

1: The hidden setup menu.
2: In the arrow map pointing menu and

Go to the menu screen select set (or settings) and hold menu button for 10 seconds, when the hidden menu appears scroll down untill the perspective mode option is selectable.

Hope this helps.

God damn ... those dealers are even worse than LCD sellers .

You can easily update your software . Here You've got the newest SW http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...available.html

All you need is to download it and burn ( I prefer ImgBurn )with the slowest speed . Then put it into your unit and the installation process will show up , next put the SW out . You gotta change the perspective "3d" mode in settings , but I can't tell You exactly where is it , I saw the instructions on the forum , but I guess You'll find it without bothering yourself .

Good luck and hang the local dealer's emploees.

EDIT : ccfj1 was faster , sorry :P

thanks so much for the quick replies! since I have to go to the dealer anyway, do they have the disks there? Also, I am using a Mac so that makes the whole burning thing a little trickier.. Any advice on that?

Also, does upgrading the software on my own void any warranties?

I do not know anything about Macs ...

Anyway , about warranty - if they don't know that something like software update exists , how it may void your warranty ? I guess that they even won't be able to notice the newer version . You might always tell them that another dealer installed it , they won't check it .

Is the down loadable imgburn program actually called ExpressBurn? I don't seem to be able to download anything else.
Thanks Colin.
