Nav Update - Change Version/Voice
 

I've read through what seems like an endless number of posts trying to figure this out and was unable to find the answer I need. So, here I am, going to ask the question.

I have a 2005 BMW 330Cic ZHP with MKIV nav. I successfully upgraded it to version 27.1 a while back and changed the default voice to the UK English. Last night, I updated to version 31, was able to change my splash screen, etc. I renamed the gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf and vice versa in the Mk3 folder. When I installed the software, I encountered no problems. The splash screen changed, but the voice has again reverted back to the US English. When I inspect with navspeak, the voice files are correct (where usa_f.csf speaks in the gb_f.csf voice).

So here, are my questions:

1. Why did the voices not change? Has something changes since version 27.1 to change the voices?

2. I know that I can't just change the voices again, and try and install because the version number is the same. I've read several posts referring to changing the version number using a HEX editor. My question about this: what file do I open in the HEX editor to change the version number, and what exactly do I change when in the editor?

All the material on here is invaluable when dealing with (and customizing) these nav systems.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem needing to change the version using a HEX editor. I found some directions but found them very confusing and never figured it out. hope we can find an answer

You can always downgrade to some other version and upgrade again.

I heard when you downgrade and then upgrade it puts it in European Mode, all the settings are in yards and liters?

As far as i know that US Vs. EU mode is not coded by software, but MK IV it self, it can be changed by dealer or navcoder, not navtweek

A serial-to-IBUS (or USB-to-IBUS) adapter, plus NavCoder, is all that you need. You can permanently recode your Nav to any three language options that you want, and all future NavOS upgrades will use the new languages.

Don't monkey around with hex file editing and file swapping. NavCoder is the best way. :thumbup:

Voice files have not changed. If you did not change the version number for the voicefile, then the nav would not have loaded new files. it only loads the file if the new version is different to the current version

The version is obvious when you view the file.
The file is lng_rel.tbl (language release table)
Content is something like "05900610Voices/0610/ " whereby the first 4 characters are the version, in this case v5.90.
View in Notepad. Or your hexeditor.

You can also force the voice load by loading 3 x different (unwanted) languages, these will overwrite the currently stored language files.

Then load the 3 x desired languages. Again, they will be loaded if they don't exist in the nav.

Using NavCoder allows you to load whatever languages you want.
