is it possible for Mk3 drive units to have Mk2 drive mechanism?

I recently sold my Mk3 unit on Ebay AS-IS as I now have an Mk4

On this drive, why is the buyer implying that it is impossible for Mk2 drive mechanism to work with Mk3 mother board. He keeps on saying someone swapped the drive mechanism with an Mk2 unit.

Did the Mk3 Nav units ever use Mk2 drive units (it was a 2000 year model). Will someone please clarify?

If you sold it "as-is", does it really matter?

It does as the person is implying I changed it :(

did you open up the unit, or was the seal sticker still intact?

I opened it to clean it (the lens)
