Background image?
Hi,
Total noob here with a question: I know you can change the splash screen to your hearts content, but is it possible to put in a background image for use with the menu system? The whole text-on-black thing seems a bit, well, dull. I figure theoretically you can put anything out on the display, but has anyone done or tried this? |
No you cannot. The menu system does not have a graphic capability.
You are correct in that theoretically you can put anything out on the display, but to do so the operating system has to support that, and it is a proprietary operating system that nobody apart from the manufacturer (VDO) can alter. It is not an open source system. |
Well, I've done a little digging, and it seems the Sat Nav system runs on a Motorola 68000 chip, and the OS itself is stored on the OS CD, and not on the device itself! If you check out mmi_sw_load in a text/hex editor you'll see a bunch of bootstrap error messages in plain text a little ways down.
The OS itself is Microware OS-9 - not to be confused with Mac OS 9. Thanks to the power of 'teh internetz' I have a manual for both the chip and the OS, and am currently downloading an IDE and disassembler. With any luck, I should be able to figure out a way to customize the menu without screwing the actual navigation up... :yikes: |
It will be great if we can have a way to change the whole computer with a normal strong pc.
imagine Bluetooth, wireless camras,DVD, MP3, .... all just plug & play :):gun: :gun: |
