Problems selecting perspective in new update?
 

I have read a couple of posts on this subject and may have an answer for this problem. Note that this is for an 05 X5.

I read everything and was still unable to get perspective view on my new V31 update. The directions are to press MENU, go to SETTINGS and then press and hold MENU to get to the Service Mode. This did not work for me. I pressed MENU and nothing happened no matter how long I held it down and I could never get to the service menu.

It took a while to figure this out, but this is how I did finally get it.

Click SETTINGS and select SCREEN. Go to NAVIGATION and select. Go to ROUTE MAP and select. Select MAP POSITIONING and then select PERSPECTIVE.

I have no idea why this works, but it did. Hope it helps somebody.

The reason that works is because that's the way the user manual says how to do it.

Well now...

The BMW directions read: press MENU, select SETTINGS, then press and hold the MENU button until the screen changes to service mode. To exit service mode, push the MENU button.

I couldn't get the pushing of the menu button to go to service mode. There were some other posts from people with the same problem.

The way I got it to work is different from those official directions. Hopefully, owners with that issue can work around it and get perspective active. It is nicer for sure.

Kiwi guy, do the menu changes as noted, go to perspective and enter "wider".

Well I have never found a car yet where I cannot get into Service Mode.

And as for switching Perspective on via the normal user menu, well, as mentioned, that's normal operations as per the manual.

But I'm glad you figured out how.

Like many of the other buttons on the NAV display, the menu button actually has separate left and right side switches underneath. In normal mode, activating either switch activates the menu. However, to get into service mode you need to press one side (I think it is the right side, but I don't recall as it has been a year or so). Try pressing the side of the menu button instead of the center. If that doesn't do it, try the other side.

I installed an amp, an aux cable, updated the Nav to V31, played with all that and then screwed up the starting code and had to disconnect the battery for a while and then jumped the X. It just might have all been too much time with door and gate lights on. I did find that the starting code re-set procedure depends on full voltage.

Just glad it all works now and that the gas gauge, which dove to 0, is now creeping back to normal. It means nobody stole my gas:thumbup:
