Error message with Mk4, yet it works with original CD
I have been using a copied version of the 2008 dvd navigation. Its never worked properly, after about 10-30 minutes, it loses conection with the DVD, and just starts searching. eventually says, error reading cd or no cd.
yesterday, i put a original 2001 cd in the nav, and it worked flawlessly. Now i dont know whether the DVD part of the nav is faulty, which explains why a cd works, or it cant take copied dvds. Copied v31 works. |
Try to burn DVD on a lower speed.....
Or If you have 2008-2 High Europe Map disk - here people have the similar problem http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...-5-15gb-6.html - navi unit does not read the disk..... |
Hi XKaLiBaR,
Welcome to the forum mate, Sounds like your Mk4 drive is picky about what it will read, some are, try re-writing the backup on a different type of media (+r or -r depending on what you have. It will be a bit hit and miss with backups, as the tolerance of the laser pickup will determine what the drive will or won't read. If you still have problems then you can try; Using a cd (this will work just as well as the dvd), like you have found out. Using and OEM DVD. Replace the laser pickup in the drive ( http://tinyurl.com/3psvc9 ) HTH |
I can not get a backup copy to work very well in my MKIV either. This is a common issue with folks. I recommend running with an original.

A new laser would make a huge difference. But your existing laser may last for years if you keep using an original disc.... |

I make the drive work harder, using OEM discs make the drive perform to manufacturers specs, backups make the laser and pickup moters work that little bit harder so it will ware out sooner.
I've been running backups (of my OEM discs) for years and had no problems, it's the luck of the draw. |
Sorry to bump an old thread, but searching "error" in the title only brought up a handful of old threads...
After recent cold weather, my MK IV is no longer reading the DVD. And as I've ejected the DVD to look at it, I do not recall it being so scratched up when I originally purchased the updated disc. Could replacing the laster possibly solve my problem? Some other, older, 2005 thread said the computer could possibly be bad. Everything works on the screen, radio, etc, its just not reading the DVD. I don't thing its even spinning it up... Thanks for any help! EDIT: Quote:
Thanks!!!!!!!! |
Yes, when replacing the drive, it includes the laser
The drive is mechanical and does wear. So by fitting a new drive you get another 10years life out of the Mk4. |
^ thanks Kiwi, your always very helpful! I figured this was the case, but just wanted to be re-assured...
I sent an e-mail requesting a price through the link above, they replied this morning with a link to a website in which you can purchase the unit from directly. Car Entertainment Parts, all navigation, cd, dvd loaders and laser, displays and rear view camera's It shows 199 euro, but that includes some type of tax, or something that is 31,77 which is deducted when you go through the ordering process and choose United States. Shipping to the US was quoted at 38,60, and it looks like the easiest way to pay is with paypal at an additional cost of 7,20. Total 213,03 euro, or approximately $308.89. I've seen used ones on ebay for less, but the new ones are usually $320 + shipping... I'm going to take it apart and see if there is anything I can do to bring it back to life, but $310 isn't too terrible, could be worse... Thanks, again, xoutpost! |
