My MK4 won't read copied dvd disk!!! Help please...

I just bought a copied BMW 2008.1 high map dvd from someone in this forum...and it won't read, on the screen it says please insert a cd/dvd...I have tried many many times...just won't read, but if I put my OEM 2003 dvd map in, it read perfectly...why is this?

BTW: I have the MK4 V31 version.

is this the copied dvd problem or my lens problem?

thanks!
Mike

I don't think its the laser, it might eb the disc.

That is a common issue with the MKIV. As a general rule, the MKIV hates reading from copies. Some folks have not had problems, but on the other hand, many folks have problems with copies. You are probably in the "problem" category.

Search the forum, and you will find other similar posts. I used to try to use a backup in mine, but it kept crashing the nav computer, so I gave up and went back to the original DVD. I have not had a crash since. (I tried burning with different media, different copy programs, and different speeds and never found a working combination for mine.)

so what should I do? Should I go to the dealer get a new lens for my MK4 or tried to burn an other one with this copied dvd?

Try burning at the slowest possible speed and with the best quality media, Verbatim usually work. If that does not work, try the highest speed! I have two PC's that have different DVD burners, using the same Verbatim media one will only create usable disks when burnt at 16x, the other only at 2x - go figure!

Also try using a different type of media, if the one you have is a DVD-R then try a DVD+R, it may work, like brian says it's a bit hit an miss.

Follow Richards advice and make an image (with imgburn, it's free) and then burn a new one on a quailiy DVD at a slow speed. I burn my tdk's at x4 speed (the slowest rated for the disc) and my Verbatim DVD-RW's at x2 speed and have no problems.

+1!!

Problem is the copy you bought is writed at more than allowed. You simply can backup this copy in a new one... but this time burn it at 1x or 2x speed.

By the way... you can get now the 2008-2 version

Manu.

Hi,

For USA, you will have to wait for 2008-2 ( I guess in a couple of months you'll have it available).

For EU, ... easily @ http://www.navteq.com/buymaps/mapupdates/

Regards,
Manu.

Best answer to this problem is to buy a new map. http://www.navteq.com/buymaps/mapupdates/

Mike, Just put in the OEM map in the drive and see if that works. If it works than you laser is okay.
Also try what the guys said above.

I know someone had the exact same problem. Their MK4 couldn't read DVDs that read fine in my MK4 and we were both running V31. So, I burned the map on +R media and that one worked fine. If your burning software and DVD drive allows it, change the booktype on +R to DVD-ROM (although that isn't critical).

It works perfect when I put in my OEM map...very quick response...so I'm assuming it is the copied disk problem...

msakuraz 06-28-2008 05:36 AM

I think it is the disk problem, because I tried to copy the files from disk to my computer, but while I'm copying it, errors came up...so it won't let me continue, it just end at 75%...

msakuraz 07-25-2008 05:36 PM

the guy who sold the copied disk burned an other one for me but still it won't read in my MKIV....damn it!! and I tried to copy the files from the disk to my computer with 1x speed, but it stoped at 80% with errors so...
can someone send me a .rar or .zip file of the 2008 high map?

thanks
