Help for an mk4 system

Maybe it will seems unbelievable, but after an upgrade goes wrong of an mk4, it seems dead...blank screen, some flashes white and black and nothing else.
Trying to resume with the same V31 first and another V31 later it doesn't respond anymore...:(...just brief flashes...it seems not be able to read cd's

The worst thing is that the navi is not mine...it's of a friend and now I feel responsible...what could be happened? :dunno:
and what could I do to resume it?
I heard many times this situation on mk3 but never on mk4...
Can someone help me?

Try to reset navi unit (disconnect it from cables on the back side) for approx 15-20 min.... and then try again to put the soft CD into it! If reset of navi-unit will not help try to disconnect baterry for 15-20 min..... Good luck! You have to succeed!!! ;-)

What was wrong during update?

Nothing...it went right till the end...cd was sent off, it said "upgrade was successfully ecc. ecc." I pushed "ok" and wait for restart...never been...:dunno:
Already tried to disconnect rear cables for about 2 hours...but nothing happened...
Any other way?

I've seen this problem before, caused by corrupt OS disc, because of scratches / poor burn. Nav cannot boot properly.

Burn yourself a new OS disc, and CHECK IT THOROUGHLY.
Burn at the speed supported by the disc.
Do a surface scan. Measure the C1 and C2 errors.
Only when good, should you try it.

You may need to use an old OS version to be different to what is in the car.

thnks Jochen...
Instead, I've never seen this before on an mk4...on mk3 several times but not on mk4...
Once on my own car I tried to install a V30 and happened the same thing...brief flash white and black and nothing more, but I tried again with the same cd and this time the upgrade went right...
So, you think I should try with a V17 and a keycd?
Than, if all goes right, upgrade with V31?
And should be helpful disconnect the power for a while?

Anything earlier than what you loaded should be fine

You only need to unplug power for a minute to reset the nav.

You only need to try a different version to what is loaded. Use V17 if you like. Or V18, or V19, or v20 or v21 etc etc.

Trash it if you want, but if i was you I'd get it working again :-)

Once I had the same problem - update process finishes "succesfully" and navi asked to reboot..... I pressed Ok..... till now this navi unit is not alive! :-( But in my case I know the reason...... I had "highly customized" $;-) navi soft! So in my case only reflashing by spacial equipment is seems to be helpfull......

So if you are not sure in the quality of your naviSW - make your oun disk and try to update.......
