Does anyone know if the factory nav systems keeps info of your whereabouts like your cell phone does ? A exgirlfriend is claiming i am following her, in my neighborhood !!!!. She puts me and my car at a particular location at a particular time, i am getting cell records of approx where i was and to have confirmation about my car not being where she said would be great. THANKS

The GPS only stores your current location

It does not have any memory of where you have been, unless it is currently in guidance mode, and thus the guidance route is an indication of where you have been driving.

AFAIK, the cellphone - if fitted with a GPS receiver - only stores your current location as well (ie: not a log of where you have been)

The cellular network stores the information of where your phone was located, but that data is not stored in the cellphone, it is stored in the network.

PS: I recommend you change girlfriends.

Here we are all BMW experts, we know nothing about "trucks GPS"

GPS receivers receive satellite signals to calculate their position, there is no terrestrial-based GPS network.

The majority of GPS receivers in navigation systems do not store historical position data.

Maybe you need to re-forumlate your question....

Thanks for the replies. My vehicle is a 2006 x5. I thought that the same way your cell phone co can track your whereabouts using GPS the X5 gps might use/have the same information of the vehicles location(s) stored away.

no, the GPS simply receives satellite signals and calculates the vehicle position to display on a map.

There is no automatic transmitting of the vehicle positional data to any company.
There is also no storage of historical vehicle positional data inside the vehicle.

Some countries offer a BMW Assist program, whereby the vehicle can transmit current positional data to the Assist Centre, but this function is activated by the user and the data is only transmitted when the User presses the button. It is not transmitted on a regular basis.

Remember: cellphone companies know where the cellphone is - this is a fundamental function of a cellphone and is used to direct calls to the correct phone using the correct cellphone transmitter tower.

However, a vehicle's location, as determined by the nav system, is not required to be broadcast to any company. You have to ask yourself: if this happened, who would pay for the continual cellphone data connection?

Do you have any sort of tracker? Some (not sure which) let you locate your car real time on a web site.
There's also a service available with some mobile phones where you can be located, I'm sure you have to agree for it to be used though.
