You sound like you have an ex-Japan BMW.

Most of these cars have the ability to change the language from Japanese to English. You need to go through the menu - I've done a few but I forget the steps. Somewhere you find a menu that has the word "English" in it, or "GB" or "UK". That's the language setting.

The navigation computer is a special version for Japan, it can never work in Bahrain. If you want the nav to work in Bahrain, you have to change the nav computer from the Jap model to the Mk4 Euro navigation computer.

To upgrade the OS on a Mk4:

1. Insert standard BMW Os disk into Mk4
2. Follow onscreen instructions

Easy.

Precautions:
Disc must be clean, not scratched, no fingerprints
Battery voltage must be good. Connect a charger if battery is poor.
Nav will not update if existing OS is same version number of new OS. Check.
