Scratched 16:9 glass...

Hi, picked up my 2006 X5 Le Mans Sport last week (bought over the phone) and the nav display is quite badly scratched. I'm presuming its not a simple job to get a replacement screen ?! Any (sensible) suggestions ? Are there any products out there to remove/help remove scratches......'glass food' type stuff that fills in the scratches ?
Cheers
Chris
PS - loving being back in an E53....this is no 4 now after a break of 3yrs...

Another member here had a deep scratch too. He posted detail procedure on how he fixed it. You have to search it. :)

Best one I found was:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=461064

However - it removes the anti-reflective coat and I have a panoramic sunroof so a little nervous about doing it....

Best (easiest) fix is to buy a screen protector. I bought one from these guys http://stores.ebay.com/ScreenPatronus after accidently scratcing nav screen and the scratches are no longer visible.

Hi - did you clean glass first (ie follow the instructions on the post link I made) and then apply the screen protector ? I note that the ones you recommend have an anti-glare property too - wonder if that's up to the quality of the BMW anti-glare that comes on the screen from the factory ?

Also - do the screen protectors go under the lip of the screen surround ie you remove the outer bezel so that you can't see the edge ?

I didn't follow the instructions in the link and wouldn't bother with this pre prep as it won't make a difference to the final result. I just applied the protector over the top of the scratched screen after first cleaning to remove any dust.

You do not need to remove anything as the film is almost an exact size match. On the MINI MCS the gap around the edge was at most 0.25 mm and you could not notice it was in place unless you look at the edges very closely. The protector actually makes the screen appear more vibrant as the finish is slightly shinier than the original screen.

Photo shows the screen with the protector in place.
