Contrast v Brightness adjustment

I recently prucahsed a 16:9 monitor from a local guy in the condition that it was not working. I took it apart that night (Saturday) and reconnected the ribbons and it came back to life. Since then I have been trying to figure out the screen.

Compared to my old 4:3, this new screen is much brighter. So much so that the roads are more white-yellow and the names and icons are much lighter. I told Brian how I took the unit out of the frame and pointed it down and could more eaisly make out street, rivers, icons, etc.

Going into service mode (computer is Mk III coded from Euro to US) I found I could adjust the contrast. Turning it up to the full level (ten) makes the menu page much brighter but does not do a whole lot for the map. I am thinking that the screen I have is from a X5.

I have seen the post on how to take the unit apart and manually adjust the screws but I don't know if it is worth it since messing with the contrast via the menu did not improve much either.

My MkIII is V 29 so it's fairly new and looks different from the one here:

I was just curtious if there was a reason for contrast v brightness in the two softwares? I wonder if brightness would fix my problem but turning down the interior lights through the thumb wheel did not do a whole lot. It was a lighter 'brght' screen if that makes sense.

TIA,

EDIT: Here is the p/n for the unit. Upon searching earlier today, I saw that others were in my similar situation with thier numbers not showing up on the RealOEM site. Monitor does have the light sensor in the middle-bottom portion.
