Yippee, my TMC is now working, but...

After numerous attempts to retrieve the full functionality of TMC including, battery disconnections, downgrading to lower nav versions 27 and 29 and even disconnecting the Nav computer, today I managed to get the messages back.

But and theres a big but. With all the above endeavours I have somehow decoded my nav computer. It was coded to my vehicle as displayed in the service menu and telematics page. It now says the computer belongs to a 7er.

Does the Nav Coder program allow you to code the computer to your vehicle so that it is fully integrated.

Is there anyone in England who has the nav coder and is willing to help me out with the re-coding of my drive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes it does, even in the 'free' version.

I'm sure there is, I have but am in the North. You can get yourself the Resler interface and Navcode for very little money, it may come in handy for other things too - VR, TV in motion ....

Thanks for the advice. I shall be purchsing the Resler interface forthwith. Am I right in assuming the V5 USB version is just an update for the sake of plugging into a usb port on a laptop.

My car is an E39 530i registered Dec 2000. I had the MK3 computer fitted as standard with the widescreen monitor. I upgraded to the MK4 computer a year ago and had the BMW dealer code it to the vehicle. Thank god I knew how to access the service menu, as when they brought the car round I checked and found that it still bore all the hallmarks of its previous host, an E53. All they did was to update the nav firmware, so I sent them off again. This time they did manage to code it to my car and I had attained full functionality of the nav computer.

I believe they didn't set the computer properly to my radio module as I could not access the radio service mode recently.

Any how I am now about to embark upon this task myself to ensure that all relevant functions of my entertainment system are active.

Please excuse my ignorance but I have no idea on how to connect the IBUS interface to my cars system. I would appreciate it if you could give me a list of the exact parts I will need including any wires etc and where to connect to.

I shouldn't have any problems with regards to connecting the interface to my laptop aswell as installing the Navcoder software ready to run.

Access to the Service Mode has nothing to do with nav coding and always is active and cannot be changed. Check that you are using the right method - there are 3 different ways, depending on age of the radio.

See circuit diagram included with the NavCoder zip file.

As to how to connect to your car, that depends on what car you have (I don't know) but most people find it easier to plug into the CD changer lead at the CD changer.

Righty ho then. Since my last update, I have bought the V5 Ibus interface and, along with your wonderful Navcoder software, successfully coded my MK4 computer to my car. However, even though I have performed this action my TMC function is still not working as it should. Two of my brothers have almost identical E39 540i's and both have TMC working bringing them the message lists, which I am still missing.

Every other function is properly working with my Nav system except for the TMC. Before I got the Ibus interface it did come back for just 5 minutes but that was a very short lived visit.
