Wait until version 15 is out - should be within the next few months. Version 14 is terrible and has fewer roads than version 13 (particularly smaller country roads).

Waste of money. Thanks BMW Australia...

I went from version 10 to 14 and haven't found any major problems with it. However you could buy this one if you want one before 15 comes out:

Anyone know when V15 will be released, tried to get answer from Whereis but no response.

I noticed for the news on V15 they say "Whereis® now provides phonetic data that enables devices to provide Text To Speech (TTS) capabilities that pronounce Aboriginal, Maori and other colloquially pronounced street names and places correctly; and Advanced Speech Recognition (ASR) means that the unit can recognise street and place names as spoken by the driver."

Does this mean you will be able to use the voice recognition to enter destination for the sat nav? That would almost be worth the price gouge being charged for update discs.

Just got word from Whereis - they say V15 will be out early 2009 but don't know the specific date... Anyway, seems from the price the quote for some v15 that the price wil be around $250 which is cheaper than the previous versions.
Can anyone confim which version is required for the E53 - Is it the VDO Dayton Carin version. Whereis could not advise me, helpful chaps.

The E53 has the VDO Dayton CARIN nav system installed (labelled as "BMW" and with special BMW menus etc, but it is the same system, designed and built by VDO)

Just be careful as VDO have made different nav systems - the newer ones have "C-iQ" which is a content-on-demand system where you pay to enable the map content.

The BMW does NOT use the C-iQ maps.

You need the older, non-C-iQ map for the E53.
