Nav Disc Update -- where to buy?

Does X5World have a vendor who offers discounts to the newest navigation disc for my 2005 X5 ? Any input as to the least expensive spot would ge greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help. Patience too...

J

You could try checking with ECS Tuning and see if this is something that they can get for you at a discount.

I just contacted my dealership and they told me the only way for them to update the OS in my MK4 is if it is faulty and needs warranty work...Otherwise I need to spend $300 - $400 on labor plus the $200 for the new nav disc. Somehow this seems like robbery to me...:(

I just bought my X on Dec 23rd -- the dealer had it for 8 days to fix what the CPO inspector missed and now they want to charge me between $500 - $600 for and ungrade nav OS ??

Please let me know what needs to be done (if anything) as a DIY that isnt going to kill my warranty or pocketbook. I have read the threads on the site and unfortunately with a MAC computer, I am limited as to what I can burn, etc.

Any suggestions ? :dunno:

Thanks,
J

The OS itself can be updated on your own. See http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...available.html for links to download the latest version.

Also see http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ystem-faq.html

As for updated navigation maps, you can get them from http://navteq.com - that will run you $200. You can often find a copy that is a year or two older on eBay for less. Just be sure you get one for an i-bus based BMW.

Updating the OS takes about 10 min. at most. You could even order the disk from the Dealer for a low amount. Most people download and burn the disk from sites like this or bimmerboard.com. Lots of instructions here and I think I have even seen that you can do it with a MAC. Do a search. The Dealer is trying to REALLY screw you.

I've read on the M3 forum that I am also a member and one of the guys there says that the BMW dealers are willing to sell the software upgrade for v32 of the OS for around $10. Has anyone here purchased the disc from your BMW dealer?

The OS took me 6 minutes to upgrade. Here are some details.

As far as the nav update is concerned, some BMW owners have 20% discount cards. If you know someone who has one of those cards
then you can get a discount that way. Otherwise sweet talk the dealer.
You will be surprised what can happen.

And BTW this dealer is trying to rip you off. It doesn't cost anywhere near that kind of money to update the OS. Fact is many of the dealers don't even know what Version OS the E53 currently has and they probably don't even know where to get it. But I updated mine using the information I gave you which is found right here on X5World.....

The disk is P/N 01 59 0 141 891 Ver.32 if you get it at the Dealer parts counter. Otherwise make your own.

My dealer charges me $50 to upgrade the OS. It's just a disk they load. If they are telling you $300 for labor that is just plain ridiculous
