Navigation system on E53 is "missing roads"
Hey everyone, just a few days ago while i was driving to Baltimore, I've noticed on the map that some of the main roads i was driving on like interstates where not displaying on the map. At first i thought it could use a software update or a new map disc, but then i realized that none of the streets i was driving on were shown on the map even the ones that used to show before were not showing now. Also while i was in Virginia the map said i was somewhere in Maryland more than 60 miles away. I have never had this problem before and could use some help. I tried turning the car off and disconnecting the fuses for the onboard computer and navigation system and reconnecting them but that did nothing. PLEASE HELP!! Going to new york in a few hours!

Did you try ejecting the disc and then
re-inserting the disc after about 10 minutes? |
i tried ejecting it and putting it back in but i guess i will try leaving it out for 10 minutes. thanks
|
Worst case p/u a paper map at 7-11 or somewhere, remember them? :D
|
ok that didnt work... any other suggestions?
|
I can actually find my street on my navi, by choosing destination input map, but when i hit direction, it says that my car is actually somewhere else like 40 miles away.

I know this is a "stupid" idea...are you sitting still right now? Drive your ride around the block for a few minutes. Maybe, the nav sat can re-aquire you. It's worth a try.
And are you sure that the Disc is the right disc? Just some minor stupid questions...you may or may not have already asked yourself |
They're not stupid questions, but i was driving the car for two days after i recognized the problem and i'm using the same disc i been using for the past year. But thanks for your input

Hey mate, the same thing happened to me sometime ago. I got the problem solved by ejecting the disc for a minimum 30 minutes before replacing it. Good luck, and you may have to do it more than one time.

If you look at the bottom of my BMW page, you'll see the NAV diagnostic mode screens and can compare with what your NAV is showing (see other posts here for entering diagnostic mode). |

This may be your problem. Remedies: Clean the disc Run it through one of those "repairing" machines that remove scratches Or replace the disc with a new one Also, a weak laser may mean reading the disc is becoming more and more dificult for the nav. If the fault continues with a new disc, try then replacing the laser. |
I have not seen this problem on my X3 and X5 but I do think it's not a map problem. It seems the receiver is not working and not getting the correct location. I have no idea how to troubleshoot or fix the problem. For me it would mean a visit to a dealer.
I do have GPS software on my phone, for situation like this. |
You can easily confirm the GPS receiver
Does it show green satellites on the little globe symbol on the screen? Greeb = signal being received. Is the GPS position correct? Write down and compare with Google Earth IS the GPS signal strong enough? Look at the S/N levels in Service Mode. between 10 and 15 for at least 3 satellites is normal |
:iagree:
If your close by a dealership borrow a copy from them and drive around for a bit and see what happens |
