Mk2 to Mk4 upgrade
 

I am just about to install the Mk4 Sat Nav on my 2000 X5 and there is a GPS lead node on the back which isnt there on the Mk2 box. Do I need to change anything? Can anyone advise? Thanks
(no-one on these and similar threads said it was a right pain to disconnect the blue and purple connectors, but it was, as is getting the box out and back in the slot)

There is an external GPS receiver box, also called the "Trimble Module" that you need to remove. The Trimble has the little coax antenna plug on it. Disconnect the trimble, and then reroute the antenna cable over to your MKIV.

The "Trimble module" connects to the "VDO Module" which plugs in to the "Alpine Module" via the "Lear Module".

So, the Trimble module (who thinks of these names?) seems to be installed above the dvd/cd unit slot? It has a black connector and what seems to be the GPS connector. You are suggesting that all I do is disconnect the black connector and plug the GPS connector into the MK4? Or am I supposed to do something with the black connector?

You are correct. Move the thin coax cable over to the MKIV. Just disconnect the black plug and leave that hanging. You do not need it any more.

Trimble is the name of the company that manufactures the GPS receivers.

Many thanks, have done all that but have really bad screen view, blurry lines, barley able to see the words except close up, from driver seat it appears dead, but isnt. Sat Nav is showing where I am (but fuzzy/blurry screen). TV picture is perfect, radio reception perfect. I can set it up on the set-up screen (barely) and brightness is at maximum. Software says 4 1/00 and Nav maps are 2009-1 9 (I havent been able to use that yet)

Any ideas as to whats going on, is it the laser, loose connections (they worked before), software issues etc?

Well, I can answer my own question here. It turned out that the blue connector was prevented from slotting in properly by the black clips used to hold it in place. Once that was sorted no problem all in place all working but background of screen is dull, dull dull, can it be changed? black to a light blue for example?

now only got to fix the passenger door handle which seems to have done the same as many people have posted, cold weather, a wife who yanked it, a bit dropping off, yes same old same old.
