Newbie with Map View Questin

I just bought a new to me 2006 M3. Trying to figure this out...

Nav Map - On the nav, I can go to "map" and see the map with no destination set. When I set a destination (route shows up), the cancel it I can't see a clean map. It still is showing me the route info / path even though I canceled it?

Once I've set a route, then canceled it how do I get back to just a plain, no route map view?

What software version do you have?

Look at top right of Setting scree and report the numbers (3-1/63, 4-1/80, etc)

I will look shortly and post. I've been reading about updating the nav but wow it seems complex.

Here is the version... SW 4- 1/70

You have a Mk4 with 4-1/70, which is like saying v7.0 in PC terms.

Current software is v4-1/100, or v10.0, which is 3 versions newer

You can upgrade the SW yourself using a V32 or V31 OS CD, available in many places for download. Google.

Thanks I'm going to look into doing that. What features will that get me?

Also will that address the issue I'm having where the route shows up on the map even when I have canceled it?

I also found that I have the perspective view but when I set it to on my maps didn't change?

Going from v4-1/70 to v4-1/100 will fix a few bugs and allow reading of dual-layer DVDs

BMW don't always tell us what the bugs are :-)

I cannot remember if 3D Perspective view is already available in 4-1/70, but if not, then 4-1/100 will bring that new feature to you.

Regarding your question of whether the route is cleared when cancelling it, I am not sure. That may be the way it was designed to work.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into doing the software update but I'm a bit nervious that I'm going to mess something up.

I think the issue I'm having is normal and I wonder if the updated verison of the software will fix that.

As far as perspective view. I DO have the setting for it but when I set it to "ON" and go back to the map, nothing happens.

You need to set the map direction to 'Perspective' too. Form the initial menu that pops up over the map when you press the right controler.

jsimon77 03-24-2009 12:19 PM

Ah....I will try that :)

Have you done an update to the OS software?

RichardP1 03-24-2009 12:25 PM

Many times. The Mk IV is easy, burn the disk from it's ISO image (don't just copy the files on to the disk) slowly on good quality media, stick it in the Nav drive, wait a few minutes, job done.

jsimon77 03-24-2009 12:33 PM

Ok...I will give it it go. Do I burn it onto a DVD or CD?

Any recommendations one the BEST place to get the files so I know they are not corrupt?

Also, my map DVD is totally out of date...from 2006. I know that the 2009 is out. Is that software anywhere online?

jsimon77 03-24-2009 03:36 PM

I tried the perspective thing and no luck...I'm able to make it active from the hidden menu but it doesn't show up anywhere. Could it be the version of my map cd?

KiwiJochen 03-24-2009 04:05 PM

You must also switch it on - once enabled, you can choose between Direction of travel, North up, and Perspective View

jsimon77 03-24-2009 04:13 PM

Ok...where is that setting? When I'm on the map and right click I get a menu...then what?

Altering direction display
When you select a scale of less than 1 mile or 2 km, you have the option of rotating the map to orient it either to the north or to your direction of travel.

1. Press the right-hand rotary button.
A selection menu appears, also refer to page 23

2. Select "Map positioning".
Another selection menu appears on the screen

3. Select the desired directional orientation.
After changing the directional orientation, it may take a few seconds until the route map is shown
