mk4 won't route

I've retrofitted a used mk4 in place of my old mk2. The GPS antenna is set up properly and I can see the nav tracking my progress over the map. The problem is that the system won't route me to my destination. I'll input an address but the nav won't tell me how to get there. I'm familiar with how a mk4 operates so I'm pretty sure it's not user error. I used NavTweak to read the system parameters and then update the nav with my car's details. None of that made a difference. Do you have any ideas what to do next?

What OS software version is fitted?

Is your GPS status normal?
How many satellites is it tracking?
Is the almanac loaded?
Is the GPS calibrated - been for a calibration drive?

Is the destination on the map?
What happens when you set a destination very close, say same street, around 200m away?

Thanks for the reply.

It's got the latest OS version: 4/100.

The GPS icon in the upper right is displaying the "GPS" indicator. I assume that means the status is normal.

I don't know how many satellites it's tracking. How would I find out?

I don't know what the almanac is.

I don't know what a calibration drive is. I've been driving around when GPS is running. I can see it tracking my progress across the map.

Yes, the destination is on the map.

There is no difference to the routing behavior if the destination is very close. I see a checkered flag icon showing the destination but it doesn't tell me how to get there.

Go into Service Mode to access the GPS status messages

Select Settings
Press and Hold MENU until service mode appears

The unit is seeing 8 satellites. Almanac mode is enabled. The GPS status is normal.

Strange fault.

Are you entering a destination properly, and then selecting "Start Route Guidance"?

I cannot think of why the guidance does not start.

Is the map disc clean and scratch-free?

OK, I figured it out. User error. You knew that was coming. The UK text says "Dest. Guidance" instead of the "Directions" entry I expected. I never went into that entry because I thought it would tell me about POIs. Looks like I'm good now. Thanks a ton for the help.

Ah. Or as we say in the technical world, RTFM :-)
