Coding Nav to Car...

I recently retrofit Nav and my BMW indy shop tried to code the "Nav Retrofit" option when done (they dont have a GT1--they have the other system made by the UK company--I forget the name)...

Anyhow, the "retrofit" coding did not work... But they went and added 609 to the options list in the car and then rescanned all the modules... We were kind of flying blind doing it... Is there anything I should check to make sure its working right?

I have an e46 and the entire system (MKIV, CD, BM53 radio) came from an 05 e46 m3...

609 is the nav option. Your guy probably used an AutoLogic. It should have worked OK.

Yup... Autologic it was... When you say "should have worked OK" do you mean "adding the 609 (Nav) option was a viable solution?"

Thx

Hey, you are a familiar name on the e46fanatics board...
I also retrofitted my car recently. I took it to the dealer for recoding but my tech told me that the retrofit is not a US option so there wasn't much to recode. The automatic scan just showed a bunch of errors. They cleared the errors caused by the installation of the nav unit and said I was good to go. Seems like everything is working on my car so I can't complain. Note that my car had assist from factory (It already had a GPS antenna connected to the TCU) I don't know if it makes a difference.

yep, that's me from fanatics--I have the come to Xville whenever I need good info with the electronics etc, as sadly most of the talent seems to move on from the e46 site... But alas... here's my Nav install: Retrofit Nav this weekend... - E46Fanatics

As for the GPS antenna... Ahhha! That's why I had a GPS antenna under the rear deck... Although after I removed the rear deck, I think I was more annoyed that I went through all that trouble for no reason. ;) I had Assist also, which must be why the antenna was there... My Assist has been gone for about 3 years though (pulled the TCU/Assist combo unit and replaced with the BT ULF).

Sounds like our techs did similar things... Once the "retrofit" failed they simply added 609 to the options list, rescanned all the other modules, and cleared the errors... All seems to work... I'm glad you chimed in though--I was concerned that it would only work with a GT1...

One thing I am wondering regarding the coding though. I used to have a car with the nav from factory. When I used the navigation, the OBD would display the distance to the next turn. I have not used the nav much but it seems that after the retrofit on this car, the distance is not displayed. Does yours display it?

It does in my e46... I was wondering what they heck it was... it said 500 then 100, I thought the OBC was going crazy! ;)

It is very dependent on the year of the car.... I think the later models can
