Updating MKIV Nav on a Z8...
 

Saw an '03 Z8 today and checked out the Nav system on it...

With that simple radio, I was surprised to find an MKIV system powering it!?

Anything special I need to know to update the Nav system on this that would be different than a standard upgrade with an actual screen?

Would simply popping in a v32 CD and then buying a new copy of the 2009 maps do the trick? Or does something crazy need to be do?

You have simple monochrome display...

No specific action should be done.... Just burn the navi update and follow the standart instructions

so the MKIV in monochrome mode will know to stay in monchrome mode right?

yes, at a guess I'd say it uses the business (not HIGH or PRO) dvd as well :)

Yes it will take an appropriate file from navi SW for the monochrome devices.

Are you sure? AFAIK MK4 even in the monochrome mode uses the same HIGH map disk.... or no? :rolleyes: MASK systems use different (not Prof)

I'm confused by the original poster. Are you the owner of the Z8 and trying to update your system?

No. A friend of a friend has one and asked me about it since I seem to know about BMW nav systems.... ;)

What's the production date of his Z8?

Yes, always - use a standard V32 disc and the update will happen just like on a colour nav.

Since he's got a MK IV I see no reason why it shouldn't work. BMW upgraded the nav system to MK IV for the 2003 model year and the drive itself was otherwise identical to all the oter MK IV drives except for one feature which was that it was specially designed to be mounted vertically rather than horizontally.

The OS disks update both the color navs and the radio (monochrome) nav.
