TV module problem

Guys,

I recently bought a digital TV module of Ebay and think I may have bought a dud. I had the dealer fit it this week as the car was in there for another issue and I got them to code it to the car at the same time.

At first everything seemed fine, however I am now finding that when I go to turn the TV on the module doesn't seem to kick in. So, the first photo is with the radio on

When I turn the TV on the split screen disappears and it goes like this, the screen is unresponsive to everything and I have to press the menu button to get it to go back to the main menu

Any clues?

Not of the top of my head mate, do you still have the Tv option available in the main menu?

Try a reboot of the tv module itself.

Yes the TV option is still in the main menu, the second picture is the screen I get after selecting TV. To get out of that screen I press the menu button to take me back to the main menu again.

How do you reset the TV module?

It does sound like the TV module has locked up (in some strange way).

Disconnect the main plugs into the unit (ignition off, and i-bus in sleep mode).

Make sure the nav is at the latest version

Is it a Mk3 or a Mk4 nav?

The nav is the lastest version. MKIV, with 4-1-00

I haven't really worked out a pattern yet of what it is doing as it occasionally works. I think what is happening, once you start the car and turn the TV on it will come up like the second photo, however if you go back to the menu and try the TV 10 minutes or so later it seems to work, anything less than this and it still doesn't work.

I have also found that the reversing camera image is slow cutting in and out when compared to my old analogue unit. So I am wondering if something is taking a long time to initially get up and running, but once up an running it appears to be fine.

I interrogated the video module with the BMW DIS software today. When the module faulted as per the earlier post I ran the test and the results came back like this:

Then after some delay the TV started working of its own accord, so I ran the same test again

Everything points to a faulty module.

The best thing to do is unplug the nav and drive with just the TV module for a week or two. Then you'll see very quicky if the TV module is reliable

I had a very similar issue with a Hybrid TV module, but it never worked. It is very strange, because the TV option is active in the main menu, but if you select it, it happens exactly, what you captured. I replaced the unit with an analogue modul, and it worked fine. So I think the modul is the faulty part.
