New nav laser - WOW!!!!
Well, got tired of my MK4 nav system going to sleep with 'please wait a moment' or even 'cannot navigate to this destination' even though it was still speaking to me.
I have read KiwiJochen extolling the virtues of a new laser so i took the plunge & replaced mine (£10) & WOW, the difference in speed is amazing & no more errors. Didn't realise just how much it must have been struggling. Did recall reading somewhere about the colour of the plastic surround (original was black & new was white) but couldn't remember the significance. Something to do with CD & DVD? Anyone any ideas about this? |
Where did you read that?
I'm interested to do that was it hard to do and where did you bought the new laser? |
Information on were to buy the laser would be nice:D Think the white plastic ones only read DVD's and the black ones read DVD's and CD's

Great write up from Didi here, http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...-nav-unit.html The whole job took one hour & was quite easy if you're handy with a soldering iron. The instructions from Didi are spot on. I searched around for a supplier in the UK but couldn't find one that actually had a laser in stock so I bought from the US Liberty Electronics store. eBay UK Shop - Liberty Electronics: Electronic Components, Cable, Led Take note about the cover colour though!!!!!!!!!! |

You really want a black cover one to be able to read Nav OS update CDs as well as the map DVDs. I don't suppose there will be any more updates from BMW but if ccfi releases any more of his fantastic modded OS's, I'm going to want them! |
Mounted a new one today myself, and i got shocked to. :)
It entered the menus like never before. :D |
