mk4 is lost

Hi
I have a mk4 but sadly it lost its way :)
I was driving around everything ok and suddenly it didn`t no where i was anymore("shark fin").
Now a week later it works again ... but still no sats. How is that possible?
No coordinates.
With the list of 8 sat the second row are all 0
Almanak (?) says no
gps tells me that there is interf.
I updated to v3.1 but that didn`t fix it now i lost my splash screen only when i turn the key it suddenly appears(did i something wrong?)

Anyone knows what is wrong?

Antenna is on top of the car. Just tried an new gps antenna nothing chanched :(
I uploaded some pictures of mine nav mk4.
The metallic box on top is that the gps receiver or something?

Yes i was afraid of that
Can i replace it my self or is it more for the specialist.

KiwiJochen 07-17-2009 12:39 PM

Easy to do yourself, it's very simple

All you need is some torx drivers and a small spanner.

rel 07-17-2009 12:49 PM

Oke so it is just click out and the new one in no soldering.
Cewl
But before i buy one how do you know its the gps tuner?
Are you sure

The tuner is inside the dvd player?

KiwiJochen 07-17-2009 01:08 PM

There's only 2 x parts to the GPS receiver:

tuner and antenna

You said you tried another antenna and it didn't fix it
So it must be the tuner

Elementary, my dear Watson

he he :D
When i replace it i let you know if its working................. or not
Where is it situated is it inside the metalic box on top or inside the player?:dunno:

You don't need an answer from me because when you take the lid off your eyes will tell you everything - it is very obvious.

The box marked DVD is the nav computer and the antenna connection is the small plug on the back of it. Make sure your antenna is plugged into the MKIV. New GPS antennas are cheap on ebay. As kiwi said, the GPS receiver is a little card with the antenna plug on one end of it which sticks out of the back of the MKIV. It is mounted inside of the MKIV. I will post a picture of one from ebay so you will know what it looks like. Do double check your antenna! Look for BMW GPS antenna on ebay to see what one looks like.

Here is an ebay picture of a Trimble GPS receiver card that goes in the MKIV. The antenna pucks are usually sold separately and have long cables.

thnx but it was a plug that didn`t work.I bypassed it and now it is working again. Simple

There was a plug in between the antenna and the receiver that didn`t work or only partial.

How did you bypass it?

My E53 has the same symptoms (resetting nav -> now it lists all satellite coordinates as being '0' even though it says it can 'see' all 8...).
