MK3 NAV issue

Hey guys,

Quick question for you NAV guru's.

I have an 00 M5, i had a MK2 unit before, i just upgraded to an MK3 unit, with 3-1/63 V22 software i believe.

Anyways i hooked everything up, put the CD in, everything works, except when i clicked onto GPS navigation, it says "Please wait a moment" and never ends up doing anything.

I also was unable to get the cd out the first time, i had to wait for it to shut down then unplug the blue power connector and hit the eject button till it came out.

I always waited till it fully shut down, the light would stay on solid, then blink fast, which i assume it was writing to flash then turn off.

Under the OBC it shows my location, and under "emergency" it shows my current longitude/latitude.

Any help guys? Should i try upgrade to V25?

Should note, the first time i put the CD in, it said "please insert NAV CD"

Also if it makes any difference, i have no ECU in my car currently, it is being returned from powerchips, if that matters at all.

Thanks
Chris

Welcome to the forums chris,

My first thought is the map cd, is it scratched or smudged, do you have another one to try?

It may be worth doing a reflash of the OS as it may be in a funny state, 3-1/63 is the latest for the mk3.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have all the MAP Cd's, i tried the "Northwest" region one, and it said please insert CD.

The Canada/Alaska CD has some minor scratches on it, i dont know if maybe the MK3 is super sensitive to it, but IMO they are nothing major. Ive only taken the disc out 1 time prior and that was to remove it from the MK2!

Anyways, for flashing it again, i put the key in 2 position, wait till the lights go out, remove nav cd, then insert OS cd and go from there? Im suppose to turn off the radio first right?

Thanks
Chris

Do you have a proper OS CD for a MKIII made in Mode2Form1?

I burned it through clone cd. I didnt see any option for burning in Mode2Form1, but i did burn it at 1x speed with a good quality cdr.

If you already have 3-1/63 then don't reload the OS. You'll just make more problems.

All symptoms point to an old / weak / dead laser. And trying to reload OS with a bad laser is a receipe for disaster.

Replace the laser, if you are technically capable.
Or replace the entire drive - very easy.
Or swap the Mk3 for a Mk4 and enjoy the faster speed, and the 3D maps.

Crap that really sucks. I just bought this MK3, and apparently it worked before, so i have no clue what was wrong. Perhaps when the previous owner of the MK3 did not wait for it to completely shut down before disconnecting the battery?
