BMW E46 330d Navigation
Hey guys ,
I have a BMW E46 330d Touring on a 53 plate which is a facelift. THe Sat Nav system came factory fitted and is all standard. In it is a standard CD-R ( 700mb ones ) disc with the UK on it. I was wondering whether there was a way to be able to add speed cameras onto the maps as currently there are none.... I did read somewhere a while ago it was possible with POIs or something like that? Thanks alot. |
Yes it's now possible mate, your need to make an image of you disc and then open it with Ultraiso (or similar), then drag and drop the main carinDB file out and then follow the POIson instructions for adding cameras to the DB, then drag and drop the now modded carinDB back into the image, then save.
Then burn a cd and put in you drive, you then select the military bases and you get the tank icon on screen, these are the speed cameras, not ideal but better than nothing. If you are handy then you can edit the text (in the OS) and have it say speed cameras (instead of military bases), as yet there is no way to edit/replace the icon as it uses a built in one that can't be replaced (yet). BTW nightmode is available for the mk3 now, this has the modded text for cameras. |
Ahh I see, I'm learning ALOT here.
I have MK4 in the back of my car. Well I am pretty sure I am, it's a dvd one. I assumed this as Mk3 only came with CD'R... Also how do I check what firmware is currently on the Nav atm? I think I need to upgrade it to V32.... |
press menu, then set then look in the top right corner, it will say something 4-1/XX, or 3-1/XX
If you have a mk4 then the skies the limit for modding, pm me if you need help :) |
ACtually I have 2 questions.
When driving around normally without having a destination inputted into the Nav ( just showing the map ) will it still alert for speed cameras? I usually visit alot of hospitals, so what I do, I select the city, and then select the hospital from points of insterest on destination, eg Manchester then POI Manchester Nothern Hospital. When I've selected the hospital and set it to take me there, will it still alert me for speed cameras? I read somewhere you can only have one POI going or something..... Thanks for the help ccfj1 Also, I am sourcing BMW Road Map - Europe HIGH DVD 2009-02 (Multi), I assume this will work with my E46 Mk4. |

Isn't there a way of having the map and V32 cd as a default ? SO you can just download both cds and burn them to disc and you're off straight away without having to do any modding etc...
ANyone know where you can download em ? |
I'm about to go pretty fucking loopy :D
So far I have managed to update the E39 to V32, there is day night, and speed camera on /off things in the settings menu. So the firmware is all good.. The problem for me now is the Map disc. I did the whole Poison trick and added in TOMTOM ASC POI and replaced it with the old carindb. I placed the disc in the Mk4 and went to the Nav screen and the map worked as normal. However I can't find the speed cameras anywhere on the map and no where in the POI sections. Am I missing something or doing something wrong here ? |

If you are not getting the camera icons on screen (the scale must be less than 5 miles) then you have not made the map disc correctly. Quote:

If you are still having problems please PM me. |

Sorry about that, deleted from post.
Ahh I see, so the only way to be able to test it is to go by a speed camera. So there shouldn't be anything to select in the menu or anything like that it should just automatically work ? For the CD what I did was I placed it in the drive. Went to ultra iso and made an image of the cd. Then I opened the image, took 2 files called carindb and bibliogr and placed them into a folder on my desktop. Then I used poison, selected thefolder, added the tomtom pois, selected a new output folder, clicked copy original files, then save changes. I then took the new carindb file and replaced it into the CDimage and saved changes. Then I merely burnt on lowest speed using imgburn. Does that procedure sound correct? |

Warning
That firmware that was from m3cutts that khizman accidentally posted as a glitch ! Lets say you have the speed cameras ON, the language is in English and all is good. As soon as you turn the cameras off it goes into French ! As soon as you change the language back to Englisht the cameras go back ON.! Options are - cameras on constantly or cameras off and put up with french lingo. People who run an E39 will see this annoying due to the OBC and the Traffic programme being all in French :( This has kinda screwed me over as I'm not sure if there is a fix for this glitch, if there isn't I dunno how to get back to stock V32 either :( Any help anyone? |

If you made the mistake of previously modifying V32 WITHOUT changing the version nuber (tut tut) then you'll have to load a different version software first Why? Nav looks at the version number of the new OS disc. If version number is same as what is already loaded, nothing happens that's why when you modify any OS disc, you should always change the version number so you can easily reload V32 if needed. |

This is one of the reasons that I did not post that link here, it has caveats, you should have read them and understood them before you blindly installed the software. In summery; This is the way that it works, the "off" options should only be used as a temporary measure the DEFAULT is "on", because the "off" is a modded version of the FRE language set (Text and Voice), these (for the nav computer) have been converted to English and work perfectly, the "glitch" is that the TV, phone and some other modules these have there own language sets loaded (and these can't be changed). If you want it to work fully (with all the other stuff in English) then there is a fix, go back and read the thread it has all the info you need to do it, you need navcoder, an i-bus interface and a OEM v32 OS disc.
