TMC help

Ok.

I have a green TMC at the bottom.

In the info from memory

TMC is set to classic
TP is ticked and set to classic aswell.
That - and + thing is set at 0 ( in the middle )

Yet my TMC still doesn't work or come up with any of the roadworks I go through.

It's all ticked to show everything though !

Any help with this is much apreciated.

I am starting to think it may be caused the the modded V32 firmware for the speed cams is causing this. Its also running a modded 2009 CD not dvd..

Anyone?

If the TMC is green then it's all setup and working.

When not being routed, (ie normal driving) then you get a list of traffic delays and details in the Traffic menu, and the warning on screen, but it won't offer automatic re-routes (unless you have the dynamic bm54 from setp 05 onwards).

When being routed however, then the TMC comes in and alerts you (by voice and display) and will offer you the option of going round or finding another route.

You normally only get TMC messages when there is a problem, not for all roadworks, (where traffic is moving as normal).

Also the cd/dvd must be TMC compliant (if the TMC is green then it is).

I've just replaced my BM53 with BM54 & now get the TMC at the bottom - BUT it's red! is there a setting I have to go to to enamble it etc?
When I press "INFO" i've enabled TP, RDS, PTY etc, & under TP it can select a station if i do that I see in Geryu letters at the top "TMC=OFF" - how do I change it to on???
EDIT: - I'm in Australia & am using V14 map which has TMC support
Also - I've gone into the Navigation menu & selected Traffic Reports & selected TMC

In Australia the TMC uses a conditional access system, which I do not think is supported in the BMW system of your era.

The nav is not receiving standard TMC data so cannot use it, hence TMC=OFf

Complain to suna - the guys who run the system - if you don't like it...

Also: verify the map has the location code database on it!
Look for the TMC files on the map disc...

Thanks KiwiJochen,

The map has the following files;
ABSTRACT
BIBLIOGR
carindb
CARINET
COPYRIGH

is there also meant to be a file called TMC?

KiwiJochen 11-16-2009 04:14 AM

CARINET is the standard TMC message database (look at it with a hex editor - you'll see the messages in all 6 languages)

I am not sure if it also includes the location database - I think not

carindb is the map file, with all map data, poi data, and I think the TMC location code database.

So actually with your CD it is not easy to tell if it supports TMC.

But: if the NAV system shows TMC in red then the TMC is not working, mainly because you don't have TMC support on the disc.

And anyway, you always have the issue of encrypted data in Australia...

Thanks - yes i looked at CARINET with a hex editor & all the messages are there.

Does anyone in Australia have TMC working on a Nav3 or Nav 4?

Mack7 03-02-2010 07:20 AM

Hey Camel, have you been able to get TMC yet?

camel_x5 03-02-2010 07:34 AM

I've managed to get hold of map V15 & still no luck with TMC. I know the latest map is V16 - but I haven't been able to get hold of it yet....
So for now still no TMC in Australia that I know of (for the Mk4 nav).
