MKIV Hardware Problem !!

Hi Everyone,

I am new at the forum whit the hope that maybe someone could help me out...

I have a E53 whit MKIV navigation unit that's keep restarting his self the red lite is going on and off while restarting

I tried many things out my self the nav cd was stuck though maybe that's the problem fixed that whit the instructions that I follewed from the site
( Thank u For That ) but keeps still restarting the system

There is one solution do if i keep pressing the eject button the system keeps working it's not restarting and i used this to update the OS to V31 Nightmaps

( Becouse the sysem is reading the Cd of Dvd it's not ejecting but if I tap The butten couple of times then the cd will come out )

The update went great but the system is still restarting his self after 2 or 3 seconds when i let go the eject button

I have no clue what to do next i did reset the system many times, removed the stuck cd updated the os, Reset the hole car but no luck I think this is a hardware problem

Please Help Me Out

I have no Tv Unit in the car Just the MKIV

Welcome to the forum,

I've never heard of this type of fault (or the fix, holding the eject button!).

However, It does sound like the mk4 has a fault, either ROM or memory or even the loading mechanism, there is a place in Germany that will attempt to repair it.

I would be tempted to get a replacement off ebay though and selling yours as faulty.

Do you have the possibility to exchange the MK4 computer with an other MK4 owner?

Hi T.Yazar

I have seen this problem exactly as you described.

In my case it was caused by a broken ceramic capacitor in the micro and ibus heartbeat line. The break meant the capacitor was open circuit.

The heartbeat circuit keeps the unit powered so long as the ibus is sending messages. Pressing the eject button artificially injects an "ibus awake" signal and makes the unit work for so long as the eject button is kept pressed.

You have to check all ceramic capacitors near to the rear connectors on the top and bottom circuit board sides.

Also check for water ingress.

Good luck.

Here I am Again whit the same problem checked every thing in the computer but no luck

some other suggestions ?

How did you check the condition of ceramic capacitor? Visual inspection is no use.

These capacitors are very small measuring 2mmx3mm.

Only way is to use a multimeter capable of capacitance measurement.

That Mean's it's not the job that i can do :)

That's the reason why I asked whether you may borrow an other MK4 unit to circle the problem.
