16:9 screen only showing 4:3 image

Hi all

I have a 1999 E39 with nav and tv. At the weekend I upgraded the nav with a Mk4 unit and a 16:9 screen.

All works OK apart from the screen is showing a 4:3 image in the centre of the 16:9 screen for all functions - nav, phone radio, computer etc. The only 16:9 image is the splash screen, but when I turn the ignition key it reverts to 4:3. I've upgraded the software to the 4/100 version but no joy. There is no option in settings to select 16:9.

I read on an old topic that this may be because my TV tuner (original 1999 unit) is only 4:3, and TV tuner overrides the 16:9 signal from the Mk4. Is this true?

If so I'm pretty hacked off. I've already spent a fortune on the Mk4 and wide screen. I don't want to have to fork out for a 16:9 TV tuner as well (I don't even care about TV functionality!).

Is there a way I can change the wiring to bypass the TV tuner?

Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

Yes, some of the early TV tuners only support 4:3 displays. However, I can not remember if they all override the nav display. It looks like yours is.

Yes, just move the blue plug connected to your TV tuner over to the MKIV. Bingo, you are done. (The blue plug originally connected to the MKIV will go unused.)

Fantastic! Will try tomorrow. Should I leave the pink plugs as they are?

Leave the burgundy plug in the MKIV as is. You can also disconnect the white plug on the TV module and fully remove it if you want to.
