Yes, several folks over on Bimmerboard and a local friend of mine did this exact setup. They all had 2001 E38s with the SES module already installed. So, they removed their existing legacy phone and installed the TCU without any coding changes to the TCU. Everything worked-- Bluetooth and voice recognition with navigation commands.

By the way, here's a neat trick to see if you have an original SES module or voice recognition in the TCU/ULF - give a nonsensical voice command that sounds sort of like an actual command. For example, "penguin rotation". If you have the original SES, it will come up with whatever command it knows that sounds something like what you said - in this case, "parking at location". A TCU or ULF with voice recognition will say "Sorry". |
