Can i just but the MP3 CD changer and plug and play with song information on the nav display?

Car is a 2004 E46 M3

You need both a MKIV and a current BM53/BM54 radio to get the full MP3 support.

If you do not have the radio & nav, then the MP3 will still work, but it will just show many tracks with no ID3 information on the display.

Based on the year of your car, you have the MKIV. So, you just need to update the radio and add the current CDC.

Do you know from which date the BM54 radio supported ID3 tags?

Looking at real oem, i probably have part number 65126943452 or 65126943450

Is 65126988276 the only one that currently supports ID3 tags?

I have heard that you can get your bm54 re-flashed to have the latest version of the firmware installed and this will allow dynamic routing AND the ID3 tag implementation.

I've only seen it on German forum sites though.

Those germans can do anything! Hopefully one will pop up here in a minute offering to flash my radio module *hint hint* :p:

bm54 have id3tag (also cd text) support on mfg date after 09.2005, however, grom audio don't need that...work even with bm24 and can read/display mp3 tag:thumbup:

I am looking to upgrade my Range Rover, but on the GROM website it says it's compatible with Range Rover with Alpine Stereo. I dont have an alpine unit, it's all BMW. So i look at the BMW ones and they dont work with DSP, which i have, so is my only option to get a newish BM54 unit and MP3 CD Changer

well...yes, in the 1st post you wrote "Car is a 2004 E46 M3", e46 do not have dsp so...
