Resetting MKIII Drive

I am new to the board and X5 ownership and am pleased to say that this board has helped me immensely already.

I do however have an issue with my Nav system. I have been using the BMW 2002-2 CD since I picked up the car but decided to use a newer Navteq Vdo Dayton CD from 2005 with the TMC Codes. This CD seemed to work, i.e the Drive loaded the CD and did not eject it but it always rebooted the Nav Computer when I got to selecting the country on the display.

I decided to cut my losses and revert back to the older BMW Disc but the Display now informs me that I do not have a Navigation Disk in the drive. I have checked and it is still there and I am able to eject it and re-insert it but still no joy.

I guess my next step is to reset the MKIII Computer but would like to do this without disconnecting the battery if possible, as when the battery was replaced 4 weeks ago, I lost all of my Key Memory options and had to pay a visit to the dealer to have them re-coded. Any ideas if this is possible ? Maybe need to remove a Fuse ?

Any help greatly appreciated.
Steve

Have you tried just unplugging the connections from the back of the nav drive for a minute? This just takes a minute to take the drive out to remove the connectors. The drive will essentially fully reboot upon reapplying the power. Make sure the drive is NOT spinning, not in use at all, when you do this. Let us know how it goes.

you can also try upgrading or downgrading the NAV OS... after it loads the new OS level, it will reboot itself...

That was going to be my suggestion as well. See http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-59.html for information on determining the version of the OS that you are currently on.
