E39 MK4 SAT NAV issue please help.

2 Attachment(s)
im new to this forum so firstly hello all.
i have a late 1999 e39 touring, from the factory it had the small tv screen, telephone, but no sat nav. i have managed to get hold of a widescreen monitor, digital tv module, and a mk4 dvd sat nav.
looking it the boot area where the cd changer lives, i have a single white connection plug, as per picture
Attachment 43166
connected to this is the white plug from the nav loom i bought from bmw.
this loom i bought, also has a black plug
Attachment 43167
i have searched the loom in the car for the black plug that this new loom plug connects to, but its not there:dunno:.
the new loom has a burgundy and a blue multi plugs which go into the back of the loom, an earth strap which i have put to earth, and a white multiplug which i think goes to the vacant white plug on the digital tv module.
so all are connected except the black plug in 2nd picture.
if i turn the sat nav on it seems to work picture and location wise,
my first issue is i have no sound from the sat nav(radio and tv have sound, and radio mutes for the voice instructions but dont get voice)
anyone know what i need to check,as this is a genuine bmw loom.
next question is i have also read in another thread in this forum,i need to tap into a speed sensor, and reverse light. my thoughts are that the black plug are for the speed sensor and reverse sensor wires as there are only 3 wires and one of those is an earth.
i have park distance control and self leveling suspension, and if i remeber correctly,i can take the speed sensor from one of these, can anyone say which wire from these unit carries the signal and to what wire i connect to on the new loom, if it is one of the wires on this spare black plug, then the other must be the reverse sensor wire? and the brown earth wire i just run to earth or must it be an eart on one of the modules i tap into.
i havent driven the car since starting the install (waiting for new tyre ordered in) so cant tell at the minute how it works on the move.
i have tried to access the WDS that has been linked in other threads, but my pc will not allow the attachment to be loaded, and i dont know enough about windows to do this safely.
any help or guidance would be appreciated as i am pulling my hair out.
im so close to acheiving it fully working its just this last hurdle seems to be very high :(

ok after a bit more searching i have possibily found some answers, just need clarification from more experienced minds;)
on the new bmw loom i have the spare black plug.
in this plug there are 3 wires, the white with yellow stripe goes to black and white speed signal tapped from either pdc(park distance control???)
or adc (self-leveling suspension)
and the other wire yellow with red stripe i can tap int reverse lights for reverse signal, that leaves the plain brown wire which i take it i just run to an earth? , do these sound correct?
still need guidance on no voice coming through from sat nav.

The audio loops through the tv tuner. I think there are two loose wires on the nav retrofit cable? Acn you find the retrofit nstructions PDF?

figured no sound out :thumbup:i will do a new thread so its found easier.
still need help with the where to tap into speed sensor and which wire it should go to on the black plug in pictures though;)

See those two blue wires connecting into the WHITE cable.

They are the sound cables, they will have to be cut and tapped into the white plug that connects to the TV tuner to enable navigation voice.

I think you only need the speed pulse and a reverse signal. You can get the reverse signal from the rear lights and if I remember correctly the e39 PDC ECU is behind the trim in the luggage compartment. It is a surprise the black connector is not present on your loom if the White connector is there. Are you sure the cabling of the black connector is not duplicated on one of the other connectors?

thanks for the replies, im very upset the original owner had all the toys except sat nav! i have taken the whole of the rear left side apart so all that was there was metal and wires big bob, and that damn black plug isnt there, i have looked at the colouring of the wires and cannot find the same wires anywhere else.
as i now have fixed the no voice issue, i just have the reverse signal and speed pulse to get.
big bob do you know what colour wire or pin position, sends out the speed pulse to the pdc ecu? i have read somewhere that its a black and white wire, but guess what my pdc ecu doesnt seem to have a black wire going to it.
i cant get to see the WDS as my pc wont let me(dont know enough about windows settings)
and as for the revers signal, my car is a late 1999 e39 tourer,so reverse lights are in the tailgate, need to get more wire!
