Newbie help

Hello folks, I'm new to the NAV, just got a 2004 X5 w/ NAV.

Looks like I have the MK4 and I have missing pixels on the screen,

I have some questions, any help is greatly appreciated:

1. Where is the cheapest (incl Free) that I can get a newer DVD (I have 2004-2)

2. How or where can I upgrade or fix my screen?

3. Can I change the cassette player to a CD player behind the screen?

4. Is there software upgrades I can do to the system?

Any other info is greatly appreciated... Thanks

While there are probably other answers, here's what I do know

FREE would be getting a bootleg copy and since you are out of warranty, hoping it doesn't screw up your system.
CHEAP is either someone here who already bought an upgrade and will sell you there older one, which is still an upgrade for you. OR via eBay. Avoid eBay bootlegs at all costs.

2. How or where can I upgrade or fix my screen?
The only thing I know is to buy a replacement screen on eBay, or used

3. Can I change the cassette player to a CD player behind the screen?
Nope. There is no room behind the Nav in pre-2007s to accept the CD player. Yes they are sold in Europe, sometimes you'll find one in the US, but it won't fit flush after you swap out the back.

4. Is there software upgrades I can do to the system?
Yes. Again, if you are comfortable downloading, burning and installing the sw, you can read this board and learn how to tell what you have and the most current version. You can also get NavTweak help which will let you devlop customer screens, POIs, etc.

Any other info is greatly appreciated... Thanks

Welcome. I'm not trying to scare you but as you will find when you read (and I encourage you to read all those threads on Nav), it seems easier than it can be especially if you don't follow the sequence of steps when putting discs in and out of the Nav drive. In addition, the drives can be a bit finicky when it comes to reading home made CD/DVDs, even refusing to spit them out !

BTW, instead of spending the money on a CD player/changer, you might think about doing the AUX input instead. That way you can hook up an MP3 player, Satellite radio, Portable CD player, and swap in and out.

Good Luck
