Lets talk FSC Activation Codes...
There is very little information on the whole process of FSC activation codes... I thought maybe this thread might start a conversation.
My understanding is that this is a system BMW has put in place to attempt to control the loading of software into their cars (actually "your" car). For example- the Navigation maps will only load onto the CIC hard drive if you enter a FSC code that bmw creates by 'convolving' the VIN of the car, and the software FSC SWID code...and creating a 20 digit activation code that will only work for your car and that one software version. (Mods, please note that there is NOTHING PROPRIETARY about this discussion, OK?) In my present case, I bought the DVDs with the 2011 nav software for $9 from BMW. (Indeed, $9 and change) I am on the hunt for the FSC process... Worse case I can buy it from a dealer for $200, online for $100 (so far)... Oh, the FSC process also works for things like Sirius. Where you jsut need to turn on or load software. Interestingly, most dealers are unaware that there is, in fact, an 'end user accessible process'. In other words, they will swear that "we need to load the maps in the shop, it costs $450". But in fact, BMW designed a system that also uses DVDs and can be done without the dealership computer... Of interest, the navigation maps I am looking at do not contain any kind of license, nor restrictions. One might think BMW is giving up on controlling the map data.... Is it permissible to hack the FSC process? I assume it is, given that it is on my car. And my car comes with EULA that restricts my use of the software on the car. (PS all this discussion about hacking my own car is (1) not a violation of any law or agreement, and therefore not a violation of this forum's rules...and (2) recognizes such hacking will void the warranty, if detected.) Anyway, my ramblings.... A |
i was lost after "there is very little information...":dunno:
what are you trying to do, please explain as if i was a 2 year old, tis my mental age after all.:nanana: |

A "CIC" car is the BMW term for the newer "hard drive based system". So things like the navigation map are no longer on a DVD that sits in the DVD drive and is accessed by the car...but rather the map data is on an internal hard drive. The use FSCs for other stuff as well, like Sirius activation. A |
i see, sounds interesting, out of my depth, but interesting.

You won't crack anything without a few sample codes to reverse engineer, and even then you may need a supercomputer to do a brute force attack. You may be better off tryign to use INPA or DIS to create the code for you.
|
Me crack it? Hardly.
Some disgruntled ex-employee at the company that coded it for BMW? .. Yes please. :) There is an interesting legal twist: Is someone cracks this, there is nothing illegal about using it! Unlike software and discs, there is no legal constraint on me entering a code and loading software maps- or activating hardware in the car that I already own. |
It is a funny system in the shop how I "request" the codes... I as a tech make a parts request for the nav code, the parts department puts the request through to BMW through a special place in their website, then I later download the codes on a computer in the shop through the special BMW website, with the choice of using a USB drive to transfer the code to the vehicle or manually enter via I-drive... And all this to activate functions in the CIC, where the hardware and software are already in place, but locked out. Same process for SIRIUS as expected. (CIC= car information computer fwiw, as opposed to the older version CCC, car communications computer)
I'm sure I'll get more info about this when I go for my next training course... |

Does anybody know anyone that can create a FSC code for voice activation? I retrofitted Bus>Pro nav in a E90 and I need one creating as my car has never had this feature. I can go an buy it from BMW though.
|
sorry to resurrect this, but did anyone figure out a way to get these codes? It's kind of lame that it requires a code for an update especially when you pay for the map update itself. Will that code be a one time thing or is that like a permanent code that will work for your vehicle? Anyway, I'd like to know how these other people out there are getting the codes so easily within a few minutes and selling them for top dollar. kind of ridiculous if you ask me.
