Newbie Question, Z4 2004
 

Hi Guys.
I am about to purschase a bmw z4 2004 with nav.

It has maps on the flip up screen and is controled by what looks like a cd player with a knob on each side.

there is a a place to put a cd dv (not sure which) in the back on the middle of the armrest.

Which unit am I running?

Can it play mp3s?

Can it be modded to do so?

Can i burn my own maps dvds?

Any idea how to get a lets say garmin map an convert it to the bmw format?

Also does it have Bluetooth?

Not sure where the nav computer is on one of them mate, but it could be between the seats.

2004?? probably a mk4 dvd rom drive, you need to find the version number of the OS to be sure. (normally you press menu then set (or settings), and look in the top right hand corner, it will have a number that will look like 4-1/50, something like that).

The dvd rom can't, not sure about the headunit (but I doubt it).

No, you could get an intravee and use an ipod though.

BT was an cost option, so unless you have the telephone option on the menu screen, then no.

I will have to check as iI dont hhave the car yyet.
But for the tetelephone part, how difficult would it be to rretrofit? Cost?

Yeah the computer is between the seats

The Z4 uses the same nav, audio and BT system as found in the E46, E39, MK1 X5 and MK1 X3.

It uses a BM54 tuner in the back for the FM and audio. You can google for BM54 Aux In.

The MK4 nav drive has DVD logo under the disc drawer.

There are many BT retrofit threads for E46 and E39 on Google. Only US cars came prewired. You will need the BT retrofit harness It will cost about £600 with used parts.

There are Parrot CK3000 E46 BT threads, and a new Connects2 BMW BT kit.

There is also the DICE Mediabridge and IntraveeII.

Don't now about OEM retrofit, but I would say alot.

Again an option, so you will need to check the original option sheet, but assume not.

Your option list shows Nav and TV (S609 and S601) but NO telephone/BT. Sorry.

What's the purpose of updating to v32? Please give me the pros nd cons.
Also can i update my z4? Not quite sure of what nav I got.

What Ver OS do you have now? Go to settings screen and tell us the numbers in upper right corner of screen.

Yahtn I checked eearlier i tthink it wwas 20. Whatever a stock 04 z4 has......what the new features on v32

You should update the OS to 4-1/00 (4-1/100). You are very out of date. Carefully download and burn the disk in Mode2Form1 format OR buy the disk from the dealer P/N 01 59 0 141 891. They are 7-10 USD. I just bought a new one from an online dealer for $7.12.

I think ??? the BT retrofit kit for your car is P/N 84 64 0 306 464 and the instructions are EBA P/N 0306466. Ask your dealer to check on that for you?????

What new features will iI get? What about v32?

The Z4 ONLY uses the Mk4 nav
The older Mk3 nav cannot be used and was thus never fitted.

The nav drive is in the storage pocket between and behind the seats
The indash CD player is just a CD player, nothing else (ok, it controls the nav too)

v32 has no new features /but that depends on how old your current OS is), just mainly bug fixes especially in relation to the Z4 and the X3
