newbie needs help re old mkIII e46 system
 

Hi

My e46 is 2001 and has cd version and is mk III, In the SET menu I have a choice of full or split screen, it also shows as 3.163

Original 2002 maps disc I replaced earlier with "Engeland_Ierland2010_2011" and is working because 2002 maps disc does not show
the new road built next to me a couple of years ago, however it does show on the "Engeland_Ierland2010_2011" disc.

HOWEVER I need postcode search and I believe that is part of the firmware upgrade (despite a dealer telling me otherwise)

Is it possible to purchase the firmware disc as it's the postcode part I need.

They replied:

The postcode feature and tmc is on the map disc

If I use the V29 modded disc will that be ok, and more important will it put postcodes in

PS.The disc they want to supply has 5 digit postcode and tmc.

You can only have 5 digit postcode search with unmodified map discs. Enter it into the CITY field. I believe there is a 7 digit postcode hacked map disc. I don't have it.

Upgrading the firmware will not give you 7 digit postcode search.

You can find the firmware here. Make sure you burn it with IMGburn in MODE2/FORM1 at a slow speed. Failure to use MODE2/FORM1 will instantly brick your nav drive. You have been warned.

ps I have already burnt a v29 modded mk3 disc at x2 in that mode but unsure whether to put it in car in case it is wrong one, hence original question

ccjf1 is the modded firmware guy. I know it's an epic thread, but I'd say if you want modded firmware, I'd wade through this thread. IT contains loads of info, including splash screens and night mode, POI editing and speed camera sounds.

Also after flashing 22_1 then trying a v27 one later it shagged it and the disc stuck, after doing the hold eject button
3 minute trick with a garden cane I managed to get my disc out.

I have a hunch the v27 may have been mode 1

I did manage to restore back to 22_1 again and got my satnav back but it does not have the ability to postcode search
in CITY Field you mention, it has letters only no numbers, hence my wanting later firmware.

I just want to be absolutely sure the above disc burnt at x1 and in mode 2 will update ok.

I have as mentioned elsewhere, a modded v29 mode 2 disc but apprehensive about putting that in after yesterdays scare.

Postcode is part of the map disc not the OS.

The 2010-2011 does not have postcode search.

The last disc that BMW sold that had postcode search (in the town/city field) was the 2009 disc.

Quoted from the maestro himself. Postcode support is not a function of the OS.

Get your postcodes working first, then look at upgrading the OS.

I am offered 2010-2011 Map disc, firmware 32 Which has postcode search available (see below) so I am confused when you say it does not have postcode support.
