Problems updating Splash Screen on a Mk3

Hi,

I have burnt about 20 CD's now and my Mk3 refuses to read them, it just takes in the CD and spits it out again after about 10 seconds.

Can anyone advise me if I am making the CD incorrectly?

I have edited my splash screen gif and replaced it in the usw_load file.
I have written the image file using M2CDMGUI and burned it using IMGBURN as a Mode 2 / Form 1 disk.

I have placed a link to my new CD Image (*.bin & *.cue files) below:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Could anyone just check it looks correct i.e. in the right format?
Is the data in my *.cue file correct?

Please help as I am desperate to have my new splash screen working!

Thanks,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

I cant see anything obvious... The spalsh is a little on the big side (in kb), so I've made you a new one using a landrover oval (green).

Like this but without the range rover part

Once you have downloaded the file, unzip it (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc.

Then use imgburn or similar (The Official ImgBurn Website) to burn a new
(blank) cd with the new downloaded firmware image.

Unzip imgburn, then v31/v32 image and then open imgburn, and select the "write image file to disc" then select the v32_LR.cue file.

Select the write speed as the slowest rated speed for the disc, you must do this and then burn on a good quality cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Go to the car open the drivers door,
Go to the nav computer and press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd, and remove from drive
Confirm reboot.

That's it.

Do not switch off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Hi ccfj1 - today we have british weather in rome it raining cats and dogs -...beg your pardon for the OT...do you have any clue or can you address me somwhere (not to BMW shop :nanana:) about unlocking dvd play during driving for an x1 e84?

ccfj1 07-05-2011 04:29 AM

Hi Vince, It's lovely here mate, bright a sunny and very hot :)

As to unlock the x1 e84 dvd I don't know, does that use the CIC? (if so you will need to code it somehow), not looked into doing any of that mate, sorry.

Apologies to the OP (for the thread hijack).

No problem, thanks for your help.

The reason I want to change the logo is because I hate the green! :D

I realllllllly want my splash screen to use the black supercharged badge like in my modified usw_load, it's the last green badge to be eradicated from the car!

If my file looks ok for colour depth and size etc then maybe I should reduce the file size? Or my next step is to buy a selection of CDR's of different brands to see if that helps.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Mark.

Possible, post up the pic again and I'll have a tweak with it and see if I can get the file size down.

2 Attachment(s)
Thanks, do you think the filesize is the likely problem then?

I have attached 2 splash screens, my original 40kb and a smaller 11kb I made by reducing to 16 colours in Photoshop.

Thanks,
Mark.

I'll see what I can do, but I'd not recommend using the cream colour as the background mate.

Black is a better background??

Well I had expected (as I'm pretty electronics and computer literate) that I could try cream, then maybe wood, then maybe carbon etc.

I chose cream as it's actually a digital photo of my dash panel

Thanks,
Mark.

PS: I am convinced that the quality of my CDRs are the issue, I've just bought 6 packs of 5 CDRs from eBay, all branded and from different manufacturers to test this theory.

Mark, just buy Verbatim ;). Tested and working 100%.
